The frills on those zikwa looked very much fish fins to the colorful doe. So much so that her gaze trailed down to those long necks, looking for some manner of slit that'd suggest they had gills. There didn't seem to be, and their tails weren't ideal for swimming, but the frills were appealing all the same. She was more than happy to share her favorite meal with the group.

It took a little time to prepare, but she returned sometime later with a bright smile. She set a basket down at the zikwa's feet. It was woven of seaweed and kelp, and there were snails and the soft insides of mussels inside. There were also small fish and some hunks of vegetables, and over it all a sprinkling of some savory powder and a squeeze of lemon juice.

"I hope you like it, it's very...mmm, refreshing?" She chuckled, head dipping in a little bow. "Enjoy."

I Always Come Back decided that he would bring the new kin a favourite winter treat of his, just to be hospitable.

He dragged the dead crane in his teeth across the frozen ground, its body bumping over every bit of unevenness in the ground.

"Things get 'uck in the ice," he said before spitting out the carcass, which was smeared with blood marring its white feathers, which might well have been its own and might have been from Will himself. "When you find something stuck, dead in the ice, it's good for a while; you can bury it and keep it or stuff it into something with salt. It lasts for a while."

He winked conspiratorially.

"There are better treats to be had, but I'm not going to share those with you; you'll need to find those out yourself."

Fun fact!: They think that mangos evolved to be devoured by an ancient megafauna that is now extinct, an example of evolutionary anachronism. Night Fishing quietly let the small zikwa tell her story. Everything she was seeing definitely seemed unknown and ancient. At sight of the fish a slow smile spread across her face. A challenge!

This was certainly a new way to fish, to be sure, but she felt reasonably sure that once she got the hang of it she was going to succeed.
And, well, even if she didn't- She'd learned some new things about fish.

But she really, really, wanted to catch a fish.

Fun fact!: It's believed that a reduction in baleen whale diversity coupled with a shift in distribution closer to the polar regions on the planet greatly reduced the megalodon's main food source. Entry: Wishing Only Wounds the Heart smiled at the newcomers, a sweet and sincere curve of her lips, as behind her Atone looked on in a mix of suspicion and alertness. The doe approached, a little hesitant at first before the training of years kicked in and she lifted her head as if she was a leader on a diplomatic mission. It was strange, all of that lost to the sands of the desert as time swept the memory of her tribe and family away, to be in this land where white fluff fell from the sky. Even that, in recent times, had changed from the familiar cycle that had ruled her childhood. It was an adjustment.

"Hello, I'm still unfamiliar with all the swamp has to offer myself. I wanted to welcome you nonetheless," she spoke with earnestness and a note of nobleness. Reaching into a pouch made of leaves and sap, she pulled out her favorite foods. A collection of apples—a few were pink, a few were streaked with yellow—and a pomegranate. "Some of these are more sweet than others, but they are all refreshing. My ma—" the doe swallowed the rest of the word with a flush of her cheeks and a dip of her head, "Atone grew them herself." She tilted her head, attempting to look behind her at the mare's face but ultimately saw nothing to hint at what her potential faux-pas had stirred.

"I hope you have a lovely winter," she said, bowing her head low before rising and turning to walk towards the mare. She felt her face burn and couldn't quite bring herself to look at her, well, whatever it was that Atone would allow to be called.

High Times has the perfect winter treat to share! Proudly, she displays her dish on a bed of pond weed. Each mound of frozen frog eggs glistens prettily in the sun.

"They're salty and have a nice satisfying popping crunch. They're fun to eat and they taste good. In the summer they're soft and squishy, but like this they're really something special." It's clear by her enthusiasm that it's really one of her favorite things to eat...
