Prompt Response: I summon sunsets I long for approached the stump curiously, a pebble between his teeth. Placing it down gently he waited to see what would happen, if anything. Then, the stump gave forth a pile of ashes. Well, he hadn’t been expecting much but it had been something.

Endeavors gasped in horror and stepped back as the stump came to life, but it was too late. The shadows were familiar to her, and they surrounded her, cut off her escape.

“Come on,” one hissed in her own voice, it’s face split with a grinning voice, “Give us a name… give us a name of the kin you care for most!”

Endeavors was rooted to the spot, shaking in silence, unable to reply.

“You can’t remember,” taunted the voice maliciously, as the shadow stepped closer, it’s flank touching hers as it brushed past her, could and empty, “You can’t remember anything anyway!”

It was almost gleeful as it circled her once more. Endeavors’ ears were flat against her head as she willed herself to move, to react, to do something.

“Why don’t you just give us your name,” cackled the voice, as the stump yawned, it’s maw eager and hungry.

Endeavors’ voice returned to her.

“I will not!”

She had suffered much to gain a new name. She stared down her shadow and glared, unflinching as it rushed for her. She couldn’t help close her eyes right before it touched her and…

She opened her eyes to a normal stump. No shadows to be seen.

The swamp was stranger than ever before. She had half a mind to go and snap at the acha that she needed to be more careful but- well, she needed some more information on what exactly she was dealing with before she did that.

Endeavors left warily, glancing around herself as she left.

24. A moldy chicken-leg rolls out of the stump.

“Oh great!” Newt picks it up happily, “I’ve been needing one of these!”

Trouble coughs up a furball.

“For a POTION, obviously,” Newt rolls her eyes, then wrinkles her nose. “It does stink a bit though,
huh buddy.”

Trouble makes a vague growling noise in the back of her throat. Clearly the owlcat isn’t as impressed as Eye of Newt.

14. A beautiful red apple rolls out of the Stump.



Goldenbranch placed her pebble into the stump and an impossibly bright red apple rolled out of the bottom.

“Oh, wow!” she breathed, bending down to bite into it, before pausing. Mirebranch would probably like to share. She carefully picked it up by it’s stem and trotted off to find her brother in amongst the market stalls.

21. A pile of berries rolls out of the Stump.

(Not sure why it rolled twice? Maybe I double clicked on accident? I'll take the first roll though and just ignore the second. Sorry!)

Sparkling Sunrise told herself she would walk through the mists again when she went back to the Stump. She spent a good portion of the walk over hyping herself up. But, once again, when the Stump was in view, all the confidence she built up blew off of her like the stray petals from the massive tree in the center of the market. Regular Stump it was, then!

The young totoma dropped the pebble into the hole in the top of the Stump, which was looking even more rough than when the Winter Market started. Mischievous must have been doing a lot of prancing and stamping on it. Or, whatever that Other Stump was was doing something. Unclear. Sparkling Sunrise didn't want to ponder that too long. Instead, she took a step back to see what came out of the bottom of the strange thing in front of her.

It was...berries? Sparkling Sunrise made a hum of concern. She had eaten the apple she got earlier and nothing had happened to her. That she knew of. But, there was something more fragile about the berries that gave her pause. Still, she picked up the bunch and carried it off. Another strange food to observe for a bit before eating. Time to get another pebble.

17. A strange-looking fish tumbles out and then slowly floats away.

Sparkling Sunrise wasn't sure if these continued exercises were really teaching her anything about this strange Stump. Each interaction seemed to confuse her more than clear anything up about it. At this point, she was just tossing pebbles in to see what would come out the other side. Hopefully, that wouldn't bite her in the hind end anytime soon. She may or may not be avoiding the mists as well. Who could say?

The pebble, when it clattered into the Stump, made a different sound than she was used to. Sparkling Sunrise held her breath as she watched and waited. There was a strange, squishing noise as something...wet...rolled out of the Stump. Her eyes widened a bit, and she leaned away from the thing at first. When it stirred and began to float, she gasped. She watched, frozen in shock, as a "fish" floated away. When it was finally out of her sight, she looked around at the other kin in the area, hoping they also saw it.

"WAS THAT FISH MELTING???" she yelled, incredulous.

2. You feed the Stump a painful memory.

Sparkling Sunrise set her face, determined, as she walked up to the Stump booth with purpose. She was going to step into the mists again. She was going to see if she became...whoever or whatever that was. Sometimes learning things was not fun and adventurous. Sometimes it was scary and made your stomach twist and your heart clench with worry. Her entire pep talk got her to the edge of the Stump in time to turn and see the mists approaching. Instead of moving out of the way, she let it envelop her.

The creature, Not Sparkling Sunrise, tensed and their tail whipped angrily, erratically. The Not Stump warbled and gurgled, speaking a language the regular Swamp goers neither heard nor would understand. But the request reached the totoma form standing before it. The white eye disappeared into the void as they clamped their eyes shut. Images of the stone being unearthed, the bashing and the breaking, and the tumbling of their world after that flashed through their mind. Dust kicked up around them in the end as the Not Totoma huffed angrily.

"The day I realized I am twice cursed. The Motherfather imprisoned me twice, made me a puppet twice. Bound by Swamp and Obelisk. Understanding will not lessen the pain, but the adventure is a nice distraction."

Sparkling Sunrise was not sure what happened between the satisfied groaning of the Not Stump and her being halfway down the thoroughfare from the Stump booth, but she was sweating and her heart was racing. She needed a good cry, and maybe a nap. There was much to think about.
