[KB] Parrot Head & Bouncer

Post by zeflamigo »

[imgleft]http://matope.pixel-blueberry.com/image ... uncert.png[/imgleft]This was not the first time Parrot Head drank bad water. At least, that’s what she assumed was the reason for seeing such strange visions within the grove. She didn’t remember donning a necklace of bird skulls, and she was even more confused her flesh fading away on one of her back legs.

Surely that couldn’t be real, she imagined. Surely this was all a delusion of her own mind, another nightmare brought to life. Most certainly, she knew she had to take more care when checking water outside the boundary of her tribe. She had a salamander that oozed pure water now, yet she was too kind to take it on her journey. Perhaps Tidal Terror would chastise her for that. The safe return of the tribe leader was more important than chilling the booze, Parrot Head realized.

A familiar face, or at least part of one, caught her out of her funk. One of the summer’s lambs, all grown up— and now missing half his face.

“Bouncer?” Parrot Head called to the buck, stepping closer. With one bad step, her hoof crunched down on a knucklebone. She paused, looking at the scattered debris of bones with confusion.

“What’s all this about?” She asked with a laugh.

[imgright height=200]https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/ ... ouncer.png[/imgright]His face may have been messed up, but his ears were as sharp as ever, swiveling towards the sound of his name pronounced in a familiar voice, his eyes following close after.

"Boss - Parrot Head? Hey! Hi! Fancy meeting you here! Wherever here is!" he cried, bounding over to the 'Head' of his tribe, and walking around her in a circle to observe how the grove had affected her. Not by much, which was reassuring. Seeing the bones of one of her legs already made him feel kind of queasy. The necklace was a nice touch, though.

"These bones," he said, gently kicking them into a pile, "are for a game called, appropriately enough, Knucklebones! It's pretty easy to play, you just knock a bunch out of the circle - oh, let me draw a circle in the dirt, here - and you count how many you get out at once, and that's your 'number'. There's twenty game pieces, so whoever gets the most 'numbers' out of twenty wins! It's great fun. Do you wanna try? I'll let you go first," he prattled merrily, his lack of lips making it very hard to smile - or perhaps hart to frown, depending on how you looked at it.

[imgleft]http://matope.pixel-blueberry.com/image ... uncert.png[/imgleft]Bouncer’s enthusiasm gave Parrot Head some ease of mind. Seeing him look so gruesome, it gave her a lot of worry. Knowing that it didn’t seem to affect his mood, that was reassuring. She wasn’t quite sure he was circling her though, sizing her up. Perhaps it was a strange thing in a Totoma’s nature. It wasn’t worth dwelling on, at least not when there was a game to take her mind off things.

Knucklebones, as Bouncer confirmed. A strange choice of chip, Parrot Head thought. She would prefer something more like shells. Kin had to work with what they had, she shrugged. Bones did seem to be abundant here.

“Ok! Let’s see...” Parrot Head kicked at the knucklebones, trying to at least get a few out. “Like this?”

"Yes! Great job!" Bouncer caroled. He was so excited to be playing a game with Parrot Head - it was such a pleasant surprise to meet a familiar face in a strange place.

"Now it's my turn," he added, scattering bones out of the circle.

[imgleft]http://matope.pixel-blueberry.com/image ... uncert.png[/imgleft]”Aha! That was a good kick!” Parrot Head congratulated Bouncer. Then, she prowled around the ring, looking for another good opening. Upon finding the perfect spot, she took a step back, paused, and then pounced!

“Haha!” Parrot Head exclaimed.

"Well done!" Bouncer cried. "It's a little trickier than it looks, but you're handling yourself very well!"

Bouncer took his turn circuiting the circle next, judging his angles before delivering a swift kick.

“That’s mighty kind of you to say, Bouncer!” Parrot Head thanked the buck, then took her turn attempting to kick the knucklebones out of the ring.

“I should hope you’re not going too easy on me, though!”

Bouncer smiled. "Wellll, I might be going a little easy on you. It's only fair that I should, though - acha hooves are so much smaller than totoma hooves! You'd be at a bit of a disadvantage otherwise. I hope you won't hold it against me," he added, lining up his next shot.

“Well now I don’t get to gloat if I win!” Parrot Head hummed a small laugh, shaking her head.

“Maybe you underestimate my dainty hooves! Brute strength can’t beat everything... sometimes things require a touch of finesse!” She challenged, driving the point home by attempting to kick some knucklebones through a precarious spot.
