"I am uncomfortable," Sleepy Time announced.
It had very little effect. Fierce Warrior cast him a slightly exasperated look, and Darling Dreamer, Sleepy Time's own daughter, just outright ignored him (which he found quite insulting). The two of them were standing a short distance away, talking low with their heads bent together, and Sleepy Time was starting to feel a bit left out.
"I said," he said again, this time laying more emphasis on the words, "that I am uncomfortable."
There was no response. On the grass beside one of his hooves, Drowse idly ate a pink petaled flower and Snooze was - well, snoozing, his little paws curled up beneath him. There may as well have been crickets chirping in the distance.
"I said," - Sleepy Time began once more.
"For the love of the Motherfather," said Darling, whipping her head around and startling one of Fierce's many familiars to let out an indignant squawk. Sleepy Time wasn't certain if it was one of the wolves, the ray, or possibly a disgruntled fish that was doing its best to imitate an owlcat's yowl of annoyance. "I am in the middle of something."
"I would like to be in the middle of it too!" Sleepy Time protested. "I want to be involved. I want to be present."
"Present for what?!" Darling wasn't screeching, exactly, but her voice had reached a pitch that Sleepy Time thought only the sand dogs could have been able to hear. "I'm just talking to someone I am having a moment - "
"You've had enough moments - "
"I have no idea what's happening right now," Fierce Warrior murmured, more or less to himself.
"Just tell me what you're talking about," said Sleepy Time to Darling, "so I can go back to sleep. I just want to go back to sleep, but you dragged me out here and now you won't even let me be a part of things, like my own grandchildren, which is admittedly a little strange to consider, but
- "
"He's just blessing me," Darling said, and this time it was a shriek. "He was just telling me about all of the good things that were going to happen if I keep being so nice and friendly and you don't need to be a part of that, you're just here because you wanted to tag along and why are you so nosy - "
"I am not nosy," said Sleepy Time, affronted. "I'm your father - "
"Go awayyyyyyy!"
Fierce Warrior had laid down at this point, surrounded by creatures. He looked on the verge of either taking a nap (which Sleepy Time wholeheartedly agreed with) or possibly running away (also a valid option).
"If your mother was here," Sleepy Time continued, "she would tell you - "
Darling flounced away. Sleepy Time followed her, still talking. He thought, as he disappeared into the trees with his daughter, that he heard a soft sigh and something like "next time I'm sleeping in" but he could have been imagining it.
