[AU RP] Witchcraft and Lizardry

Post by Scaramouche Fandango »

It took every ounce of willpower within Strange Creature's heart to not hide her firelizard in her robes. Normally, she wouldn't bother resisting, as by now the instructors had stopped trying to separate them. It didn't do any good. There were some magic users whose talents sat in spells, silver filigree bursting forth from their wands as they reshaped the ether. But outside of basic skills, Strange Creature wasn't what you'd call a high performer in that regard. There were some whose talents brewed and bubbled in the cauldron, but Strange Creature could hardly tell her potions from her lotions. There were some who could transmute, predict, change the warp and weave of the future- but none of those were her talent, either. No, Strange Creature was a lizard wizard, the type of pseudo-druid who got along well with magical animals and didn't really care about anything else. Her menagerie of pets was testament to that.

But today of all days was not the day to break the rules about where one's pets did and didn't belong, because today was the first day of magizoology, a class she wasn't even supposed to have access to for another two years. She had spent most of her first year begging to be able to take it, and frankly wild winged horses couldn't keep her away. She had a gift with animals, draconids especially, and she'd already managed to keep a small herpetarium in her dorm. The school's own serpents found there way to her living quarters, and at this point, none of the staff even tried to separate them anymore. The snakes just kept coming back.

She showed up for class twenty minutes early, practically vibrating with excitement. She was the youngest person in the room, but that didn't matter; she was here. She pulled out her notebook and started doodling- dragons, as always- as the rest of the class filed in. She didn't know any of them, but that didn't matter. In fact, her enthusiasm only bloomed as the professor announced that they'd be paired up. Surely her partner would be just as enthusiastic, right?

She turned to the student who'd sat down at the bench next to her, her new partner in animal enthusiasm. "I'm Creature!" she said, leaving off the strange part of her name. Her new partner would pick up on that soon enough. She enthusiastically stuck out a hand, waiting for the shake.
