[PRP] Violence Begets Violence (Destined Daughter & Vow)

Achas rarely put up much of a fight. They were built for endurance, not strength or speed, and that wasn't of much use if you snapped one of their fragile legs. There wasn't much they could do after that. Desperate always tried to make it quick once that was done. Less likely to be injured that way. And unlike most of her siblings, she didn't take any pleasure from the act. It was just work.

The other thing about achas; they were easier to carry back. A Totoma had to be dragged back to the caves and it usually took more than one of them. An acha could be thrown over the back and carried. Some of the others had found bear pelts or the skins of other kin helpful in transporting the bodies, but she wasn't allowed such luxuries. Desperate only had herself and nothing more.

So, it was fortunate for her that an acha had strayed onto the mountain, close to the caves her family called home. Fortunate for her. Less so for the acha. Her teeth were still clenched around the throat of the small kin, ensuring the job was properly done. She'd learned early on that just because they stopped kicking didn't mean they were dead. After a long moment of stillness, she finally released the acha's neck and got to her hooves. Now all that was left was to carry it home.

[PRP] Violence Begets Violence (Destined Daughter & Vow)

The mountains were a cooling balm after being in the desert for so long. The dark skies and frigid winds matched her recent mood quite well. She was still tired. Still angry. It had only been a season since she lost everything, and she had spent every day since then seeking a new purpose. Wandering and helping those in need along the way seemed to fill the void somewhat. So, when her sharp eyes caught the dark figure dragging another by the neck, she paused. She started towards them and was about to call out to see if they needed her help when she saw how deeply the teeth of the kio were gripping the neck of the acha, blood dripping steadily down the small creature's front. Until finally, the dark kio let go, and the acha flopped lifelessly to the ground. Vow quickly realized this was not a friend trying to drag another to safety. Quite the opposite.

Her eyes narrowed. "HEY!" she barked, charging up to the two. "What are you doing?!"

Vow hoped it wasn't too late for the small acha. She let the swirling anger festering inside of her guide her as she lowered her head and bulldozed into the kio, trying to push her away from the frail body laying in the snow.

The sound rang out like an avalanche across the otherwise quiet mountain and Desperate's attention was instantly turned towards the source. All she caught was a glimpse of a red blur amongst the greys and greens surrounding her, but it was rapidly approaching and that was enough information to know she needed to move. With little effort, she skirted out of the way just as the mass- which at this close distance she could tell belonged to a totoma -nearly collided into her. She quickly put space between her and the belligerent kin, taking a moment to assess the situation.

Even though Desperate could be considered big for a kiokote, she was no match for a totoma, regardless of their size. One solid hit from this doe could hinder Desperate's hunting for weeks if she wasn't careful. And on top of that, this totoma didn't have the typical curled horns. They were straight, and sharp, and looked like they could put a kin out of commission permanently, if the doe could get a good angle on her target. The smart thing to do would be to just run. But Desperate had worked hard to get hat offering and she couldn't return home without. The consequences would likely be worse than any damage this totoma might do to her...

For now, she simply stood back, deciding on her next move and refraining from answering the other doe's question.
