[PRP] Dancers in Starlight

Post by fox »

The soft sounds of the forest echo around, as Smallest Star treads through the trees. This path is well worn, one she has walked many nights. The soft moonlight which dapples through the trees illuminates her way, casting the world around in shadows. There is a soft clink, clear as icicles shattering, as she moves, the sound of her necklaces tapping against each other. Soon, she reaches her destination.

It is a small, moonlit meadow. The wildflowers dance in the breeze, as Star steps into the open. She looks around, a cursory glance over, before she takes another step forward. As long as she has been coming here, she has never met another kin at this time of night. Her care has grown lax. She takes step after step, until finally, she is in the center of the meadow, silhouetted in the starlight. Star takes a deep breath in, before tossing her white mane back, and beginning to dance. Her hooves tap in a rhythm, though no music plays, and she is lost in her own world... Until a twig snaps.

She is startled back into reality, missing a step in her well practiced routine. She falls back on her haunches, shaking slightly as she cranes her head around wildly, looking for the source of the sound.

"H...Hello? Is someone there?"

Totem hadn't meant to follow her, but she hadn't been able to help herself. Soft bells had penetrated her ears and called to mind legends she'd been told of benevolent nature spirits that chimed as they moved, and she had to know if that's what she'd just come across. Every time Totem got closer to the sound the gentle tinkling moved away and in the end had led her to what smelled and felt like a meadow. The noise continued among the sweet fragrance of night blooming flowers and the sensations led Totem to imagine what such a creature would look like- Made of moonlight, for sure. Or as best as she could surmise moonlight looked like based on how it had been described to her.

She took a step closer, hoping to hear the otherworldly bell song more clearly, but a snapped twig and all sound stopped until-
She talked like a kin! Did that mean the creature had chosen to accept her presence?

Totem stepped out into the meadow, her very best Good Dog with her, and she smiled brightly.

"Hello! I didn't mean to startle you," she said carefully, "the soft song of your movement was very lovely."

She paused, unsure of how to best ask what was on her mind and not wanting to offend.

"Are ... Pardon my impertinence, but are you a nature spirit?"
