More to Keep Than Fireflies.. (Firefly Keeper & Guardian of Life)

Post by Kinu »

Firefly Keeper had travelled far and wide. She'd done so much and seen so many fantastic sights in her time.
Marvelous creatures, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, stunning lakes and rivers.
Yet nothing had dazzled her quite the way fireflies always had.

Now something else had stirred her wonderment. Far more mysterious than fireflies. She would have her own little ones soon. Her first time as a mother.

She was nervous, excited, and anxious all at once. It was a bit overwhelming if she was honest. She wanted the best for her young. To show them all the wonders of Matope.
Their father, the buck she'd met on her most recent adventure, was handsome and intriguing. She'd been so fond of him and hoped someday to see him again.
For now she would do her best to protect and love the little lives they were bringing into this strange, beautiful, world.

If only she knew what to do..

Guardian of Life had found the purple doe not long after she felt the pull she had come to know and love, of a kin in need of a blessing. It grew stronger as she came closer, and with a gentle noise, let the other know she wasn't alone.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" the day, the location, it was hard to say. Maybe she meant the fact she was expecting. Guardian didn't clarify, yet. Instead she looked down at the doe with a gentle smile on her face.

Keeper startled a little as a voice broke through her racing thoughts, but the Acha found she was almost instantly soothed by the beautiful Kin's presence. A... a Legendary? For her and her unborn young? A small swell of emotion rolled through her. She was so lucky.

"Oh, y-yes.. very beautiful." She felt she understood somehow. Even if she didn't there was plenty of beauty to choose from. This feeling, being a mother for the first time, it too was beautiful and terrifying. There were so many dangers in the swamp. Could she be a good mother? Keep them safe? Raise them well? She felt so unsure.

"Have you come here for me?" She felt a little naive asking but the question was out before she could stop herself.

Guardian smiled down at the doe and gave her a simple nod. "I am yes. I could feel your need for me, and so here I am."

She walked along, a slow meandering pace. "You seem...nervous is a good word. Uncertain. Your first time being a mother?"

There was a gentle warmth from Guardian as she asked. Every time could be nerve wracking, but the first time, doubly so, you had nothing to base yourself on after all.

Keeper nodded. Smiling up at her and giving a little chuckle. "Is it that obvious?" She must have been giving off such a spooked vibe, either that or Legendaries just knew that sort of stuff. Neither would have surprised her.

"It is my first time. I just.." The hesitation only reared its head for a moment before she let go. "I'm afraid I won't know how to be a good mother. That I won't be able to keep them safe. And.. this one feels silly but.. that I won't be able to help them make happy memories they can carry with them." She sighed. That was a lot to let out. Especially to a Kin she'd just met.

"A little." Guardian admitted easily, but she laughed. "Only because I recognize it from when it was my first time. I don't think the nervousness ever truly goes away, it just changes a little. Much like our hopes and expectations do."

She listened to the does concerns quietly, and once she finished there was a smile. "I think you'll do just fine. It seems like you have a good mothering instinct already, to be worried about those things." her head tipped a little. "Well that's simple enough. May the MotherFather bless the wonderful life you're carrying with the ability to make happy memories from even the scariest or direst situations, and carry those happy moments with them. Does that work for you? Or is there something more you'd like me to add?"

Nodding as the Legendary spoke the Acha chuckled, some of her tension about new motherhood easing.
It was comforting to know her feelings weren't something only she had experienced.
She'd thought about motherhood here and there but, for it to suddenly have arrived, it had turned her world a bit.

Keeper listened, her eyes wide and glossy with emotion as the Legendary blessed her young and eased her worries.
What a perfect blessing. Her children would find happiness even in darkness.
Relief washed over the little Acha. She sniffled and nodded in gratitude.

"That.. that's perfect." She whispered, her face lighting up happily. "Thank you so much.. I will never forget this."

Guardian rested her head along the does neck, and spoke softly. "I think you'll make a fine mother, and you'll find strength when you least expect it, when you need it most. It's just how we are, protective of our young. Even when they grow up." she stepped back, tail shifting a bit behind her before she was no longer standing there, instead a pale marine iguana peered up at the doe, before scurrying off into the nearby brush, leaving her to her thoughts.

Warmth, like the kind you feel in a moment of complete safety and comfort, flooded Keeper. A small tear rolled down her cheek. She was overwhelmed by the assurance, newfound confidence growing deep within. She could do this. She could be a mother.

"Thank you." She whispered, her eyes closed a moment and she took a deep breath in. Filled her lungs with air as if for the first time in her life. As the Legendary stepped back she added another wonder to her list of amazing sights. Watching her change she smiled, though awe filled her gaze.

Inclining her head deep she gave a bow of respect and admiration. "I will never forget this." She repeated herself. She meant it. This moment had changed her life for the better and she would rise up to meet this new, wonderful challenge the way she had for every event in her life. She was ready.
