[ b ] Rock and Roll & Once Forgotten

The conundrum was this:

Rock and Roll was neither a gentle, nurturing soul, nor was she an easygoing one. A part of her supposed that this was due mostly to the fact that she spent a great deal of her time alone, but it could also possibly be explained by an innate desire to prove herself as some sort of fiercely independent being who relied on nothing and no one.

Except here she was, having successfully failed at that. Good job, Rock.

Venturing out into the forests, Rock and Roll clomped through the grass at a relatively quick pace, searching for someone to help her.

“WOOF!”

The playful bark was the Kiokote’s first clue that she was no longer alone, and the next was a large Ealgehound bounding towards her across the grass, strange rainbow lights bouncing around his head and tongue lolling happily at the corner of his mouth.

The bark came out of nowhere, which in turn made Rock swivel abruptly. She lost her balance, nearly plummeting face first into the grass, but managed to catch herself at the last minute, hooves skidding along the ground and leaving sharp grooves in the dirt below her.

"Oh," she said, trying to catch her breath. A pale gaze eyed the eaglehound with some suspicion. "What are you? Are you here to help me?"

The hound slid to a halt to watch as she nearly tumbled over from surprise. His feathers flattened on his head as he whined apologetically, eyes very big. He hadn’t meant to startle her so badly.

“Woof,” he answered, in a much more moderate tone.

There was a moment in which the eaglehound stared at Rock and Roll and Rock and Roll stared back at the eaglehound. A long silence proceeded between the two, which was broken only by the sound of cooing birds high above the tree tops.

She cleared her throat. "Right. Uh. Are you - are you one of those - "

Another prolonged pause. Finally she said, "Can you help me?"

She just stood there and so he did the same, watching and waiting, his ears perked as the stillness ran on and on until finally she spoke.

“Woof,” he replied, somewhat confused, because that was what he’d just said before - oh, right, he was still a dog.

His form shimmered and shifted and then there was a rather apologetic looking Kiokote standing in the eaglehound’s place, the coloured lights drooping around his face.

“Yes, yes, I can help you. Sorry about that. Sometimes I forget.” He cleared his throat. "Congratulations, I am here to bless you and your future offspring!"
