[B] Enticing Waves [ Elixir x Breach ]

She puffed up her cheeks and exhaled. Inhaling, she held it in before releasing in a rhythmic breathing exercise that was supposed to alleviate the back pain from the added weight. She was happy. She was thrilled. But damn was it inconvenient during the hot months. Since it was her first time, she did not know what to expect, nor exactly how it happened. She was there in the swamp for a good time, not necessarily a long time. She didn't think to learn all the nuances of life mysteries but here she was. And she needed a legendary.

When in doubt, ask around.

"Do you know a legendary?" she asked the copse of trees.

"Are you secretly a mare or stag?" she asked the slumbering marine iguana.

"Do you know where they sleep? Do they sleep?" she asked the clouds.

The clouds were soft and one did look like a nice place to sleep and rest. Rest. She was tired. Drifting toward the body of water, she settled down near the waves and asked the ocean, "Do legendaries even exist?" Resigned to her fate, she practiced her breathing exercises once more.

There was a lot of squealing as the new rugged whale shark hovered through the swamp air. It was hard not to be ecstatic at the new form that had been granted upon her by the Motherfather and she was perhaps more wild than usual. She felt the pull to her pod and had intended upon visiting one of them when the feeling of need had welled up within suddenly. It had stopped her dead in her tracks as playtime ended and the duty of her position became apparent. There was a blessing and it was her turn to fulfill it.

The instinct, however, of the new beast's mind was not quite ready to be submissive and it took a fair bit of time to wrestle until she could focus on the direction to go in. It wasn't far and, briefly, she wondered why that always seemed to be the case. Was there a limit to how far they could feel the need? She squeaked a number of clicks as she thought and decided she would have to explore that idea.

Breach floated for awhile until she came upon the doe and, amused, had to admit she wasn't terribly far off in her endeavor. The trees might have been a stretch but the iguana . . .

"Yes, we sleep," the ghostly mare said from behind the hovering whale shark.

Since she was mid-breath, the excitement and jump scare resulted in her producing a sound from her open maw much like a fart. This was not the way her encounter with a legendary was going at all.

She tried to stand up and regain some of her dignity, but slipped in the wet sand, pitching her body forward. Head in the same, hair disheveled and a mess, she blew the tendril out of her face, squared back her shoulders and tried again.

"Hi. You must be a Mare." She didn't know if she should stare at the rugged whale shark or the ghostly form trailing behind. Her eyes shifted uncomfortably back and forth between the two.

"I would very much like a blessing please. I hurt. I'm tired. I'm achey. I want to be able to sleep through the night, but I am equally worried and scared. I hear that legendaries can assist in the birthing process? Make it somewhat easier? Is that true? Can you speak to the waves by the way?"

Elixir was a bundle of nerves, but she knew she might not get a chance to meet a legendary again. She might as well ask her questions now.

"Oh," Breach blinked at all the words that spilled from the doe before taking a breath. "I didn't mean to startle you and you must be exhausted in your state." She remembered it well, sometime too well to ever do it again. Perhaps that was why she had only ever had the one clutch. She wondered exactly who she'd have one with anyway but knew that it was unlikely to be a repeat with Can't Touch This as much as she did enjoy teasing him relentlessly. (What a terrible name!)

"I am a mare and we can help ease the birthing process as well as ensure that your children are born healthy," she nodded. Then paused.

Could she talk to the waves? She couldn't say she had ever tried to do so. She supposed she could talk to them, yes, but whether they would ever talk back . . .

"I never tried to talk to the waves, I'm afraid, but perhaps I shall try after I assist you. It's terribly uncomfortable to be pregnant with a clutch," she smiled in sympathy.

Elixir looked at the waves. They did look enticing as their sound was soothing. Perhaps in her next life she could swim in them forever much like the mare in front of her. She didn't know what it took to get the swamp's blessing for the legendary life, but it wasn't a bad one if she could swim. or fly even.

"I would very much love assistance with this clutch. I am not sure I am built for pregnancy or the sustained weight. On the way here I ate half of a watermelon! I didn't even know I could fit that much with this clutch growing inside of me!"

The mare smiled, trying not to laugh, though the trio of clicks from the whale shark might have given her away.

"Are you looking for something in particular for this clutch of yours?"

Elixir supposed it was only bound to happen after her myriad of questions. Of course the Mare would ask her and yet, she was not prepared. She hummed and tried to think. What did she want for them. There, she had an idea.

"I never thought I'd see a legendary in person. I thought I would go through the seasons without ever meeting one of the mythical kin we tell stories about around the campfire. And yet, it's pretty nifty. I hope that my children will get to experience the same. I wish for them to be curious and tenacious in their seeking of knowledge and the mysteries the swamp has to offer." There. That would do it. She could hope.

"Our numbers grow all the time, you're children are sure to see one if they seek us out," she smiled but nodded nonetheless.

"May your children be curious and never take no for an answer, they shall be healthy and happy and able to think on their feet. It shall be an easy birth and you shall find the recovery far swifter and more comfortable," she blessed the curious doe and smiled.

Damn. That doe was pretty cool both in Mare and rugged whale shark form. She could only hope to one day attain that kind of life. Blessed and content for the first time in days, she bid the Mare goodbye and made her way back to her home. She felt lighter with renewed purpose. She would uncover the secrets about legendary kin one of these days.
