She did not know what to do about this.

It was dark, and Peek's sleek coat was shifting with the shadows, blending into them as she slowly made her way through a thick copse of trees, their branches hanging low overhead. A few willow leaves brushed at her side, slightly itchy, an unpleasant feeling. One of her ears twitched restlessly.

Help, perhaps, was what she needed.

When he stumbled across the lone kimeti, he slunk back, certainly in no hurry to make introductions. She didn't seem...too suspicious, though. What was she up to? She didn't seem to be hunting. Or sneaking. More...meandering. Right. Right, he should check, in case she was some lost dignitary.

He stretched, wiggled in an undignified way, and then clawed his way silently up a tree.

He called to the kimeti from a branch.

"Hello," he said formally, "Hello, yes, you. Down there. What are you up to?"

The voice came from up above.

Motherfather?

No, not the Motherfather. A creature with long, spindly looking horns and glowing gold eyes that was staring down at Peek. It was a little too dark to read the expression on the owlcat's slender face, though Peek wasn't entirely certain she wasn't just imagining things. It took her a moment to respond, her dark eyes glinting.

Eventually, she said, somewhat hesitantly, "Me?" and then, a second later, "Wandering. Musing," and then later, "Why do you ask?"

"That's all?" Stalker asked, sounding surprised.

He put in skeptically even though he had been doing much the same thing, "A little dark for a wander, especially by yourself, isn't it?"

She stared up at him for a long moment.

"Yes," said Peek, and then, "Maybe. I don't know. I was thinking about things."

A pause.

"Motherly things."
