[PRP] Paths Once Walked Alone (The Sunlight Speaks & Blood Moon Rituals)

It was actually a nice spring day. Ritual wasn't one to comment on the weather, in fact, he was often so heavily focused on his work that he didn't stop to regard his surroundings unless it was a physical threat or he was being pelted by rain, snow, hail, etc.

But he had to say, it was a beautiful morning. The fresh breeze must have traveled from the plains as it carried with it the faint scent of wildflowers, or were those fruit tree flowers? He didn't have the nose to decern between the two. Something floral. Whatever it was he liked it.

He felt a chill and his gaze drifted to a shadowy shape on the edge of his peripherals. A strange form peeking around a tree. As he turned to look at it fully the shape vanished. Ritual was used to random peeking spirits. Often they were just curious. Though sometimes they wanted something. He'd long ago lost the ability to be startled. With a lazy yawn, he ambled further down the path, on the lookout for anything peculiar or noteworthy. If the spirit wanted something it would present again. He wasn't about to chase it.

[imgright]http://www.matope-swamp.com/images/corn ... uncert.png[/imgright]Ray breathed in deeply, filling his lungs with the scent of fresh flowers and day-old rain. Today was a beautiful day. The wind was just right, strong enough to lift even the most tentative of wings, but gentle and soft enough to catch them should they fall. The grass beneath his hooves was springy and fragrant. And the sun.

"Everything is perfect, little one," He spoke softly, his voice lilting and song-like, "Today's the day! Your day. Let's do our best, okay?"

The green buck smiled, looking up into his branch-like antlers at the small orange bird who rested there. It shifted, as though unsure, and chirruped hesitantly.

"Now, now, little one. No need to be afraid. Hush, hush..." And then the buck began to sing, his voice carried on the sweet-smelling breeze.

It wasn't a creative song, but it was one he'd known since birth and before, in the dreams he had while sleeping in his egg. As he sang, the orange bird's voice grew more confident and soon it sang too, the two unaware of anyone listening.

'The sunlight speaks and its voice is a bird,

it glitters half-guessed, half-seen, half-heard,

above the flowerbed and over the lawn,

a flashing dip and then its gone,

and all it lends to the eye is this;

a sunbeam giving the air a kiss.'

The breeze brought something new with it. Mixed among the scent of flowers were the lilting tones of a song.

Nose stuck in a hole to dig out an acorn, one ear perked up in response and he lifted his head to try and figure out where it was coming from.
The sound was pleasant. The singer had a nice voice. Soothing.

Was that another Kin? It was a bit bold during the daytime if it were a spirit. It had to be someone alive.
Normally he'd slip off into the shadows, avoid them completely. Usually, that was best.

It wasn't that he hated others, more that he felt anxious under the weight of social norms.
Group conversations and excessive amounts of external stimuli, it was more overwhelming than enjoyable on most occasions.
Unless they had something interesting to talk about.

Somehow, he felt drawn. Like he wanted to get closer so he could hear the words more clearly. Moving through the trees the large buck dipped his head to avoid branches, his long hair catching the breeze and rippling as he went.
