[PRP] The Rocky Descent [Venturous x Gloom]

Post by fluo »

Gloom stretched and elongated his form before sliding down the tree, the rough bark catching on each of his legs. And if it weren't for the small tug of the bumps of the tree, it was the sticky sap that made his descent less than ideal. He was used to sticky webs and oozes, but the sap took forever to rub off and they marred some of the beautiful petals of his orchid prize. They all had a use even if he did veer on the extreme and nefarious side of things. But this, this was an extreme altitude kind of harvesting and he enjoyed the struggles it entailed.

And so Gloom the spider came down to where most kin walked and placed his orchid in a small fallen over tree trunk for safekeeping. He had plans for that one, but he needed to find the perfect stones first.

Venturous was the sort of kin who liked to wander. This, sometimes, put her at odds with her lifestyle guarding the mouth of the dragon cave. Having her children and cousins helped more often than not, for those occasional days where wanderlust decided to set in and the doe set out, seeking some intangible... something.

Today was a day like that.

Gloom saw many rare and special flowers, but it wasn't often he spied a dragon. This one the colors of a cooling sunset, his first two limbs rubbed absently together in excitement. For a brief moment, he wished he had a web large and strong enough to catch the dragon. He admired the smooth way it cut through the trees with great dexterity. Flight. That was one thing he missed. And it wasn't the only thing for right behind the dragon was an acha. He couldn't help himself. He was already in stag form.

"Hello, what a lovely dragon you have there"

Treasure, for a leatherwing, was very well-behaved. He didn't bite (usually), he didn't stray further than Venturous could follow, and he had learned when kin were talking about him. Or, at least, when they were talking about dragons. The tiny creature wheeled around with a little screech, wings flapping as he slowed himself down to land right in front of the stag.

Venturous smiled at the new buck. "He appreciates the attention," she told him bemusedly. "He likes it very much." The tiny lizard raised his crested head, then his forelegs, rearing up to try to scale the stranger's leg.

Is this what they spoke about when Kin waxed poetically and drunkenly about love at first sight? While his first form will always be special to me and the spider body was useful for many things like hiding away his treasures, Gloom wished to feel the wind on his face. And he appreciated anything with flair and attitude. Flashy wings and acha, he greeted them both.

"Hello, hello, little fellow and big Acha. Fancy a walk this fine day?" He gave his leg a playful shake. He wouldn't admit it, but he soaked up attention like the driest desert much like the dragon.

A large smile broke on his face. "What does he like to eat?"

A small, simple leg shake was enough to have Treasure on the alert. He peeped in offense, wings flapping to make sure he kept his balance, before continuing his climb.

Venturous laughed. "I'm Venturous, and this is my little Treasure. Since he's abandoned me for free transportation, I may as well enjoy the company."

Gloom couldn't remember the last time he was so chatty. It had been a while since he had seen his family. Doom was off burning shit and Look-See's predilection towards baths now meant she was the resident beach bum of a tribe near some crescent bay or another. But he had a fantastic day spying and harvesting this rare orchid and just as he came down, he ran into these two. Not to read too deeply into things, but he sent a quick thank you to the MotherFather. Those were some really cool looking wings. If he had wings, he could climb higher and not have to worry about things like if a branch could hold his weight as he climbed upward.

"Treasure and Venturous are fine names. I am Gloom." And because he was wrapped up in the serendipity of the meeting, he offered the acha his latest find.

"For a such a fun pair, here, have this. I found this orchid earlier in the day. I had to climb several ridges before I figured out how to get to it. It's without scent, but they're neat. This little branch has several of them. They look like lemurs with little leaf hats."

Venturous laughed as she leaned in. Curling petals mimicked arms, legs... even a tiny tail, if you squinted. Peeking in, you could even see something that almost, vaguely, looked like a face. "You know, they really do!" Something about this buck struck her as, while not lonely, perhaps socializing for the first time in a while. Or maybe he was normally this fixed on other kin. She couldn't know for certain.

All she knew for sure was that it was welcome.

"My cousin-- really, she's practically my sister, that's how we explain it to the foals-- used to try to collect orchids. Unfortunately, children aren't very good at not eating them, and when she tried to rehome them with me-- the orchids, that is!-- the dragons decided they were fair game. These little beasts are cute, especially when they're hanging off of you, but I swear, I'm not allowed to have anything be mine.

"Except for the onion. They don't bother the onion."

Gloom didn't know what an onion was. Sure, he probably came across it, but if it wasn't about rare plants, he wasn't about that life. It sounded like a plant. Was it edible? Maybe it grew in the ocean.

"I wouldn't try eating these orchids. There's not much substance. But I do know for a fact they aren't dangerous, venomous, poisonous, or whathave you. They probably aren't that tasty either. I like them for how silly they look. They don't really serve any function, but it's nice to look at pretty things in a while." Like Treasure's wings as they twitched. He was feeling the yearning again. While he was enjoying this conversation and admiring a very pretty dragon, the call to the unknown was tugging at his heartstrings. While he was acquisition oriented, this yearning felt more acute and personal. As if he himself wanted a change in the paths he went down.

The dragonlike acha smiled. "The substance isn't what attracts them, she said. "They like stirring up trouble, I think. The colony I tend definitely does, at least-- I routinely wind up having to lead some poor, headstrong buck or doe out of their cave absolutely covered in them."

Treasure had rather happily found a spot between the buck's shoulders to lounge on, and was, at least for the moment, content to lounge while the two kin chatted. Venturous kept an eye on him even as they walked, intent on making sure there weren't any unwelcome surprirses.
