As soon as winter gave way to spring, The Royal Rainbow Troupe swung back into action, putting the finishing touches to acts and spreading the word of the next big performance. Which meant that Watch Me, as head of the troupe, was very, very busy (showing off).
Being as busy as he was, Watch Me wasn’t too keen on getting that familiar little tingle and pressing urgency that told him there was somebody who needed a blessing. It was all well and good when it was someone in the tribe, who he could wander over to and bless without breaking stride. But when he was forced to
fly, all the way across the swamp, it left him in quite the mood.
He was a songbird when he found the duo, who seemed to be in some sort of staring contest. An odd bit of courtship but he too knew the pleasures of getting lost in the eyes of an Acha or two, so he wasn’t going to judge (even if neither of them were as pretty as an Acha).
With a squawk to announce his presence, Watch Me swooped in between them, changing into a Kiokote in one smooth, practiced motion. Wings out, flap, change, land elegantly.
As he transformed, he was already talking, “alright, I’m here now.” That was mostly for the MotherFather’s benefit rather than the two Kimeti.
“Congratulations and all that,” he said flippantly. “So, what do you want for the kids? Health, happiness? Good looks? Luscious locks? Oh, they won’t need that. Dad already has it covered. Think quick, I have to get back to the troupe before midday or I’ll miss lunch.”
The afterimage of his bird form was still there beside him, as if waiting for him to finish off and shift right back.
