Critical Hit was quick, stealthy and strong. Critical Hit took no opportunity for granted. Critical Hit had met a nice doe and after the first try tryst encounter, she was with child.

This is what Critical Hit told his mother, but with less detail. Mostly he told her the last part. He stood before her, head slightly lowered in deference to his powerful mother.

"What, already?" Cue said, "uh, okay."

She was vaguely surprised that one of her kids was not a complete loser*. Then again, it had taken him this long to meet a doe.

Critical Hit thought about many things in her mild pause and surprise. He had been very concentrated in the arena with his uncles, honing his skills, having been immersed in goat martial arts since his youth. In fact, he had pretty much disappeared into the arena his entire life up to this point, wherein he had emerged, met a doe, and thus came to this point.

"I'm not sure what to ask for," he confessed, because he felt like he could be honest with his mother, "surely they will be strong if they come from our family? What do kin ask for?"

"Well," she said, her brain not moving as fast as it ought due to the ongoing disbelief, "health is always a good one. Don't worry about looks, they'll get them from your Dad and I."

She paused, thought about all her children, and reconsidered this statement.

"All the same, I'll toss it in as well.

"Happiness. Very popular, that."

Critical Hit's mouth moved silently, counting his blessings in his head as his mother recounted them. Well, that would work. Besides tussling around, he hadn't much more to ask, feeling his life quite complete in the long scheme of being born, fighting, eating and in the future, dying. His mother certainly seemed to know what she was doing. That was why her eyes glowed, and she was curt, but wise.

"I think it would be nice to ask for something specific, but I'm still not sure.

"What did you want for us, mother?"

Her mouth sealed into a grim line.

"The first thing you ought to remember is that the Motherfather can't always provide," she said, "but you won't know what you're missing.

"Alright, health and happiness it is. And looks and strength."

He was quietly touched that he got to benefit so much for one blessing, what with his mother as a legendary. He found himself moved as he listened to her practical checklist and let the first statement sail over his head.

"I would like them to love me like we love you," he decided steadily, for that would be strength of heart, and did not mention his father.

"That would all be very good. Thank you mother."

Her mouth sealed into a grim line again, except this time her lips were not touching, so it was probably a grimace.

"Okay," she said, through gritted teeth.

She prayed. Oh, Swamp, did she pray. For a few other things besides (mostly brains).

"Swamp-willing," she said.

"Swamp-willing," he agreed, and gently pressed his head against his mother's shoulder before trotting off to bash heads with his siblings and uncles in the arena again. Perhaps head trauma was the reason for their lack of intellect.
