[BLESS] To New Horizons (Travels in Circles x Violet Tooth)

Travels in Circles was still and quiet. Unusual, in both circumstances, for him. He was typically a wanderer, a talker who made less sense than anything else, and yet today he seemed almost listless. It would have been easy to assume that he was morose. Instead, he was merely waiting for the buck or doe or both (it was hard to tell who, honestly) to meet him for he knew that someone was in need of a blessing. Today, it was his turn to give one but here he found himself stumped. He felt uninspired and that was strange enough.

"Would it be so bad to bless a clutch to believe in flight?" he wondered, aloud, and then blanched as soon as the words hit his own ears. "Nevermind. That would be quite bad, I agree," he answered himself and the two pets that he kept (or that kept him, as the case was).

Blind as a bat Violet Tooth perked up. Her hearing was great though. Flight? Flight sounded great for someone hard of seeing like them. When confronted, they liked to flee and or hide. Preferably both. It's what Zikwas were good at since they lived in damp, dim places. So Violet Prick stepped right up and swiveled to the voice.

"Yes, I think it is prudent to run away when the opponent or opposite is much greater!" squeaked the kin, its voice unused for days in its desperate search for a legendary.

Ah, there she was. Travels in Circles turned to face the zikwa.

"A fair assessment," he had to agree. There was no sense into walking into the open jaws of, then again it hadn't gone so bad when he'd done it in the past. Or the present. How else would he learn how many teeth a caiman or crocodile had? That said, he probably shouldn't encourage that for newborns. He was learning, though slowly, what it was to be in a position of . . . well, whatever it was he was. His mother was the wise one; he just had a good heart.

"You must be in search of a Legendary, then," he smiled.

Violet Tooth puffed her chest out and preened. Yes. She was. But she was also wary that such a legendary would be so agreeable. Was that normal? Was there some murderous plot unfolding that she could not sniff out? She sniffed once, twice, and loudly the final time. Nothing seemed amiss. The place between her shoulders did not itch in warning.

"I am looking for a legendary. I met an acha. They are loud, fierce, and pound the ground in an unusual, arresting way."

"You're in luck, for I happen to be a Legendary!" Travels in Circles grinned and tried to imagine the acha that this zikwa had found in her journeys. He was miserable at imagining what partners the kin would found him had settled upon, whether it be for one night, one clutch, or a lifetime. He always thought of more adventurous kin and then he remembered that he hadn't fathered a clutch in forever. He was busy with his own adventures; even if they often ended up less adventurous and more hours stuck in the mud.

"What is it you would like for your clutch?" he asked the zikwa. He hoped it would be for fun, for humor, for adventure and awe. There was so much more to life than any one thing and he had grown accustomed to the idea of stretching the horizons of those he met. Even if that meant a simple blessing to smell the flowers or to take the wrong direction once in awhile.

Oh, she could choose? Would wonders never cease! She thought about it long and hard, but mindful of the traveling Legendary's time.

"I want them to be healthy upon arrival and throughout their life. I want an easy delivery, too." She might as well ask for the moon but she had heard horror stories. "I want them to be aware of their surroundings and clever to escape any troubles they may find themselves in."

There. She was hoping she wasn't missing anything.

"You shall have an easy birth that produces a healthy clutch; they shall prevail in health all their lives as the survey their surroundings and find any escape that may aid them in their lifetime," Travels calmly bequeathed. It wasn't as well rounded and lacked the adventure he would I have added but it had the important things. Health and observance and survival. It would do.

And then he shifted into a giant moth and fluttered away. His duty was done and he had adventures to get to.

She was surprised. That was a very all encompassing of a blessing and she was relieved. And when the legendary flew off as a moth. That was one less worry for her to deal with and the fact that the clutch would be healthy, she manually exhaled a sigh. That was her biggest fear as it was her first clutch and she had heard stories. She had seen the lost and the blood. And oh yes, the less than healthy clutches. She wanted them all to live. It would be great if they outlived her but she knew the Swamp and nearby lands was not kind. She was happy and overjoyed they would have a fighting chance. It was more than she could ask for and she saw a Legendary on top of everything. Already things were falling into place and she let herself feel the tiniest bit of happiness.

They would live and they would thrive, at least for their youth. They would be healthy and smart. Those were what the blessing form the Legendary promised. And from her own experience she would try her hardest to make sure they did not repeat the same mistakes she did. It was her duty as their mother and the one to go before them. If she could shelter them from death and beyond she would. She hadn't even met this clutch but she already loved them. She could not wait. Making her way back, she had great news to share with her mate.
