[B] Moonflowers [Loon x Atone]

Loon slept in for the day with big plans for her evening. She thought long and hard on how to achieve her goals. She simplified it as much as she could and it sounded plausible in theory. She would find a worthy gift for a legendary, and then embark on journey to find said legendary. Any would do, though she hoped to cross paths with a nice one. She'd much prefer that in her current state.

And so she woke, took care of her dailies, hunted, ate, and waited for dusk to fall. Drinking enough water for her trek, she sought the flowers impressive enough to sway a legendary kin and stranger all in one fell swoop. First impressions were important and when all else failed, plied them with gifts. There was no shame in bribing and she wanted to minimize risks for her first clutch.

Loon checked the first bank before moving deeper into the trees. She found mushrooms and soft moss, but not the flowers. She found things that glowed, but again, her telltale petals were not to be found. Circling the area before trying a new terrain, she stopped by a ravine and looked up at the moon. It would be her luck if she found her flowers there. She had a feeling it would be a long, dangerous journey but well worth it. She advanced upward slow and methodical, her belly hung low and slowing her down.

Atone curled up, coils thick from a meal well caught. She'd meant to head back to her grove after dinner but then the weight had been so pleasant an instinct fulfilled that she'd settled down after a short trek and napped.

It was a sound, perhaps a branch or twig had snapped, that woke her. And she felt her jaws open as a warning hiss breathed out onto the wind. Not that she feared whatever it was because she was, after all a Legendary. Mostly, though, she simply did not fear for herself. The self-loathing had taken a large toll upon her but still she did not fear. Unless it was for others.

She ruffled her wings, uncoiled herself and reared up to look around. And then the feeling set in and she knew who, knew why, she had woken. Oh.

She heard the flap of wings and decided to inspect. Birds were known to be natural pollinators or some even came close to the flowers for various needs. And when she ventured forward she was not prepared for what she found, but was pleased nonetheless. She dared much.

"Hi! You must be a Mare!" Forthright and direct, that was Loon.

"Clever," a mare formed behind the feathered serpent, half visible. "I'll give you that. Or are you merely luck?" she smiled and chuckled. It mattered little. She'd been found and she would do as was intended.

"Now, what is it you want for your children?"

On a good day, she might be called clever or even lucky. But for today, Loon was desperate. She would do anything for that blessing and made her desires known.

"You can call me anything under the sun you like if you give me a blessing."

She would have rescinded the compliment but the desperation was understandable. She'd had children once, too.

"Your children will be born healthy and happy; they shall be intelligent and prove successful at finding what the need. The birth shall be easy and you shall recover swiftly," the mare blessed.

That was way better and easier than anything Loon had imagined it going. She was blessed alright. Blessed she found a legendary who didn't demand her pound in flesh. She was very fortunate, but not ungrateful.

She stammered out her gratitude. "Thank you so much. You won't regret it. I'll make sure I'll tell everyone about you and your generosity." Loon fled before she thought about her words and whether or not the Mare would want that kind of reputation. Loon got what she wanted and all the adrenaline that had been keeping her awake after so many sleepless nights soon fading, she knew she would fall asleep soon. She had to get to somewhere safe. Her babies and her life depended on it. She felt incredibly rushed and desperate all the time with this clutch. is this what pregnancy was about? Sigh, but it was one huge relief that the Mare was found and offered such a grand blessing. Content to have found her home in record time, Loon crashed and slept like the dead.
