[BLESS] Wish I May (Dare Not x Doom)

She never presumed; it was both a gift and a curse. She rarely had her heart broken and she had never quite learned to hope after the warning of her naming dream. And yet now, she was pregnant and alone and unsure of what to do. Wish Granted would be back, of course, as he said he would but until then she had things she needed to get into order. Mainly did she dare to seek out a Legendary? Did it not go against the naming dream that had shaped her? Did it not go against her name?

Dare Not. It had saddled her with a thought and the inability to yearn. In most cases, it proved fruitful. How many yearned and received only a broken heart? Too many.

But the children had not yet dreamed and for them . . . She owed them the best, the most. She would find a Legendary and she would receive a blessing for them.

Doom had several forms and was hardpressed to admit which was her favorite. She flitted between the three, happy that they all offered flight. But it had been a while since she bathed properly and she was smelling ripe. Blood crusted her feathers and scales, and she assumed the Mare form. Going for a quick dip, she found a preferred body of water semi secluded and shaded while offering protection from the fall winds. It was getting chilly and she preferred to leisurely dry by sunlight anyway. Sinking in, she swam to the center for a few circles before returning to the shallow banks. Sighing, she was content. Soon a whistled melody slipped from her lips. Life was good.

It was a mixture of heaviness and a parched throat that led her to the water. She bent to lap at the water's surface and almost slipped, her hooves sliding down into the mud and a soft cry piercing through her lips as the sound of the whistle startled her. She blinked, head beginning to turn wildly left and right until she spotted the explosion of color just hidden behind a bush that jutted out over the water's edge. It could have been a crocodile and she felt her heart hammer.

How did one survive pregnancy when their mind went out and their bodies went tired? She could have been a meal right now; she had to focus on the fact that she was not. She could not predict the future and that was why she did not yearn, that was why she was seeking out a Legendary. And she had a feeling, not quite a hope but that déjà vu sensation that said this was a mare across the bank. And the water would ease her aches.

Dare Not slipped into the water and started towards the mare. She nearly sagged as the weight from her joints, from her belly eased in the cool waters, but she could not idle. She swam towards the bank, a question on her lips not yet ready to meet the air.

Doom heard the splashes before she felt the water move. There were small hatchlings more graceful than the advancing kin. She didn't even need to crack her eyes open. She knew it with surety in her bones what this one was after. Perhaps this is why she preferred the other forms. It made it much easier to feign incomprehension with a request. She slipped under the water and held her breath, hoping the other kin got the message.

Dare Not felt resignation start to swell as the mare disappeared beneath the waves and wondered if she should turn back now. And if it had been for her, she would have moved on. She dared not tread further than the Motherfather intended but then why would they have placed them together if not for a need to be fulfilled? With a deep breath, Dare Not followed suit and sunk down beneath the waves.

She would not lose the Legendary; the children insisted upon it.

This time Doom opened up her eyes and was bemused. Someone was insistent without a care in the swamp for safety. She smiled before ascending for huge gulp of air. She waited for the other kin to break the surface.

As soon as she breached the surface, Dare Not had an apology on her lips for the mare, "I'm sorry I cannot let you get away." It was sincere and kind and probably severely unwelcome if the mare was trying to lose her.

"I will leave as soon as my children have a blessing, I promise."

It was a good thing Doom had a full belly and was feeling lazy amid the languid waves. She was too amused. Very few kin willingly sought her out or even came back. She was getting soft or perhaps pregnancy really was that horrid. It had been many seasons since she last delivered a clutch. Perhaps she should go back and experience things again. She was losing her touch to the swamp. Hunts were fun and she had kin she favored, but she had been on her own for too long. It's not like her familiars ever talked back or offered much in the way of conversation.

"Oh, and what are you willing to offer in return?" Doom had no use for any possessions, but curious and amused, she felt herself enjoying the conversation.

"I shall give you the knowledge that none of my line shall ever seek you out again. We will submit our prayers in your name and leave you alone," Dare Not replied, softly. "I never yearn and thus I cannot have the foresight to gift you that which you would only find paltry but it is clear that you would rather I turn away and since I cannot, I hope this is satisfactory."

Wow, that was quite unexpected. Like winning a wager, Doom was glad this doe had spunk and made it her worthwhile. She felt the corners of her mouth lift upward and her eyes crinkled in mirth. Yeah, this bath whim was proving to be a fantastic idea. It was one pleasurable experience after the other.

"Yeah.  That works. i dig it. I bless your clutch to be clever and bold smartasses. The swamp is in dire need of them and their special brand of fun." Turning her back and the blessing done, she dove for water before quickly surfacing. Almost an after thought, but the smile could still be heard in her lips.

"If you or your line ever need a blessing, i hear there's a black and white Mare who sometimes takes the form of a griffin or owlcat. She's always down to give out blessings." Doom tossed that advice over the back of her shoulders as she dove again.

She had a feeling that last part was untrue but, still, she shouted a thank you (more to the sky as the mare once again vanished down beneath the surface) and turned to head back to Wish Granted. She thought he would be relieved that their fling's result had a blessing and she was filled with adrenaline that eased the heaviness of her belly pulling her down towards the ground. Oh, thank Doom and the Motherfather.
