[B] Surprise at Sunrise (Grapefruit Mornings+Giveforward)

Post by HuniPi »

[imgleft]http://matope.pixel-blueberry.com/image ... uncert.png[/imgleft]The buck had always been a morning kin and more appreciative of the way the skies lit up as the sun rose. It was not to say that sunsets were any less beautiful but Grapefruit Mornings simply had more energy to appreciate things in the beginning of the day. Today was extra special for him, he'd learned he was going to be a father to beautiful children and wanted to hunt for an extra helping of breakfast for the mother-to-be. He wasn't being particularly quiet and was humming a happy tune as he set about foraging.

[imgright]https://matope.pixel-blueberry.com/imag ... ncert5.png[/imgright] Giveforward yawned, wide enough that her entire body stretched with the motion. She'd felt the want of an expectant parent and it hadn't seemed like it could have been far away. She forgot sometimes how much less ground she could cover as a jackalope. She could go fast but she seemed to tire faster. It was only natural to fall asleep in a wild plot of cabbages; she'd needed something to eat and carrots took more effort. She scratched at her cheek with her back foot, ears perking up as the sound of humming broke into her sleepy mind.

There he was, she thought, amused. The Motherfather was so kind to have brought him to her this time.

The kio continued his humming as he foraged, careful not to destroy too much of the vegetation as he gathered morsels. He didn't want to take more than needed, it wouldn't be right or fair otherwise. Snuffling through the plants he eventually spotted the jackalope and Grapefruit went still, not wanting to scare it away. He didn't tense up but it was clear he didn't want to disturb the little thing and tried to be more mindful of his collection.

The jackalope rose, nose twitching as she took in the kiokote's scent before hopping towards him and then sitting on her haunches. She pushed herself up, stretching out as if to beckon him closer.

Grapefruit canted his head in surprise and curiosity at the bunny's... no, he squinted and spotted the small antlers. The jackalope before him seemed to be beckoning to him. Did it perhaps want to make friends? The kio never had a familiar before! Was this how you get one? Gingerly he approached, lowering his head to be eyelevel with the jackalope.

That was much better. Once he had come down to her height, she sat back and reached her front paws to his face. She carefully touched his snout as there wasn't much else she could reach with such a small space from paw to paw.

A soft chitter, pitched higher towards the end, left the little creature's mouth and she tilted her head, in much the same way he had before.

Grapefruit didn't know what the little thing was saying but he let the jackalope touch his snout and nodded in response to its chittering. He assumed it was saying something or trying to communicate but he didn't understand what it was saying so he humored it.

Even going so far as to talk back "Thank you for letting me take a bit more of the food here. It's going to be for my clutch-mother. She's expecting and I just wanted to make at least this morning's breakfast one less thing she has to think about."
