Name Origin:
Her name doesn't come from a specific event, but why she's doing what she does. The idea behind her name is that she's been having a dream, a dream of creatures that fly in the space between the stars and the sky, since she was a newborn foal. She feels an almost unstoppable desire to find these creatures, and has spent her life doing everything she could think of to do so. She's climbed mountains, she's tried to fly on air currents, jumped off waterfalls (attempting to fly), etc. This single minded devotion was obvious to the other Totoma that lived where she did. So she spent her life chasing after these dream creatures, trying to reach that space they reside in. She's talked to everyone she could, tried to learn what they are, studied plants and animals and how they fly, and so on. The other Totoma around her obviously knew about this dream as well, and one day, when her and many of the others began to feel the Ache, she knew this was just an extension of her quest. When they began their travels towards wherever this Ache was pulling them, they met many kin on their way to the Swamp. One, who heard her describe the creatures and asked if she was talking about this, and showed her the whale shark that they had following them, which is where she learned a potential name for what she saw in her dreams. Whales. This is closer than she'd ever gotten to knowing what they are, and so she attaches that name to what she dreams of.

So, they continue on their journey to the Swamp, and as they are reaching their destination, one late night, they are walking through a shallow marsh and as the sky fills with stars, and the water begins to reflect the light, causing it to look like they are standing in the sky. This moment, where the others looked at her, and remembered how she'd described the whales, creatures that flew in the space between sky and stars, and for a moment, as the sky and ground became one, a shining night sky, the others saw it for the first time. Thus, she gained her name. Not just because of this event, but because of all she'd done to reach it, and all she would and will still do to find it. Her eternal quest, for which she has done many noteworthy things. Climbed mountains, attempted to fly via gliding on air currents, jumping off waterfalls, travelling to the Swamp, and more. The others had seen her following this goal for so long, and they felt that the things she had done were not what it was she had achieved, it was following this goal, to find these space whales, and so they named her for the creatures she sought as a way to honor her eternal journey and struggle, and the amazing achievements she had and will do to find them. Essentially, she is not what she had done, but what she was aiming for, the goal she would never reach, the dream she could never experience, but would never stop aiming for. A foolish and eternal quest, but still amazing in her insistence on following it, no matter how hard or impossible the tasks to reach it seemed.
