He always did this, stood over them as they faded from life and tried to remember who they were. There were times he didn't know them, then he could only wish them peace.
He never did eulogies, though he admitted they could be helpful. It wasn't his way to take words and spin them into memories. His was far simpler. He took their names, their deeds, their personalities and learned from them. Into himself, he took these lessons and gave them eternal life.
It was from his vigil that someone granted him a name. "He immortalizes them," and it had stuck. He didn't quite like it; it sounded so grand. By then, there was no changing it. He would accept it in time, he supposed. Such a small thing, to remember, but his name made it a challenge to live up to.

'The night had never truly been a friend, not really. It was just so dark during the night. That was, at least, until the first sighting of the glow. It was hard to make out what it was, but it was right there, on the very edge of her vision. One, then another one, then another one.
Curiosity taking hold, the little one somehow managed to sneak away from the rest of her siblings, seeking out the source of the glow.
It took time, as the glow always seemed several paces ahead of her but eventually, she found herself surrounded by so many of the little glowing bugs that she plopped down and settled herself to sleep.
It became routine, then. To escape the dark of the night, she took up Chasing Fireflies as a means to find comfort and easy sleep.'

-Sometimes the young buck had a strange sense of things. It seemed like coincidence at first until it happened more and more often. He would sense a change in someone and felt compelled to spend time with them. Strangely enough they would end up dead shortly after.
This happened so often, that he began to be blamed for the deaths of those he had taken to in their final moments. Young and old, goat or other... it didn't really matter. People had began referring to him as the Breath Stealer.
Some assumed that it was because of his father that he had such tendencies... however he was a gentle soul. His intention was never to harm and he only wanted their last moments to be pleasant or at the very least not afraid and alone. But his name ensured that he would be avoided for the most part except by the bravest. Many have survived the Breath Stealer and went on to boast about it. He wasn't entirely sure what to feel about that.
But a name is earned and despite its consequences he still continues follow his sense and appeal to his nature.-
