“If I came in, I’d just be in the way”
A sigh escapes the healer as she examines the determined look on his face. Just as a breath was taken for rebuttal, he interrupted,
“How is he?”
‘He’ll live…A few more days rest and he should be good to go home. In the meantime, you should go home and rest. If YOU continue to wait out here in this rain, like this, you’ll---
‘I’m fine. I can take it.’
He threw her a reassuring smile before trotting off to some far corner. With a sigh, he shook himself; ridding himself of at least some of the cold heaviness that weighed down his body. As the rain persisted, not much time had passed before he was soaked nearly to the bone yet again. So he got back to waiting.
He waited. No food. Fitful sleep: with dreams of the incident that brought them there…and rain. Cold and heavy rain.
Days pass and his body ached continuously. His mind, though sharp; had a distinctly hazy edge.
“How is he…?”
‘Great news, he has recovered enough to go home. I’ll send these herbs along. All that he has to do is take two rolls and chew them to mush before swallowing. His lungs are still a bit sensitive so…”
He nodded and listened as intently as he could; finding it strangely more difficult than usual. But as he saw his friend emerging from the cave entrance a happiness flooded him.
“Bright! You’re okay!”
Just before his world faded to black.
Long story short: Bright and Healer had to drag the young buck into the cave and out of the rain. After much drying and nursing, he stayed there semi conscious and feverish. A week and a half passed with the Healer. She scolded him for his stubbornness in waiting outside despite the heavy rains.
Bright stayed extraordinarily lively and seemed to be getting better for about a week, but quickly went downhill as an infection in his lungs set in. The damp weather getting to him, he succumbed. Bright did not survive. The one who waited in the rain did.

What is an adorable little mountain climber to do when the source of her fascination is just out of her reach? Climb higher, of course. No cloud is too far, or so she tells herself. Her gaze to the sky, seeking, searching, following... and tumbling quite often along the way but what are bumps and barely felt bruises when those clouds, those beautiful, fluffy things, they call to her?
Dark storm clouds? Those were a little frightening at first but before long, she had to be herded back inside as she would have otherwise spent all of her time with her face turned upwards, her gaze on the sky, seeking, searching, dreaming of the day when she could truly reach them all, her clouds. Nothing would ever stop this Cloud Seeker.
