Until life found him as well and the stubborn Kiokote fell in love.
For a long time, his searching came to a long halt. There were children and a mate that made his heart sing. He softened and relaxed into the daily life of caring for this new-found family. But time moved onward once more and his sweet foals grew up and left the nest, struck out to start their own lives. Suddenly bereft and discontent, suffering what one might call a mid-life crisis, Once Forgotten began his own wanderings.
He sought friends and dived into his dreams, and it was there that he was told a horrible truth - his father was dead*. He grieved not the loss of a buck he had never known but the loss of a purpose, a lifelong goal. For months Once Forgotten lingered alone, struggling to overcome his sadness. It took time but with the return of spring, he was reminded of all that he had gained while in the Swamp. There was the family he had made here and that was where he had always been happiest. And so he returned and found them all waiting. This was where he was meant to be. One purpose had died but another, more important one, remained in its place.
(*Not actually. Maple Milk lied and whether Once Forgotten's father is actually out there alive or dead, nobody knows.)
He would make a good ascension candidate... because he's an older buck with a family and a lot of life experience. He's been through the long journey from plains to swamp and spent a lifetime searching for his father only to lose his life's purpose, then forced to reevaluate what was most important to him. He knows the value of friends and family and not getting bogged down or being too stubborn about one particular thing. He's also very patient, used to putting up with interesting and sometimes difficult kin (see also: cue queue and all of their children). The wisdom he would impart to others would be that the journey and the joy you find along the way is greater than any end goal.
As a legendary... Once Forgotten would be dedicated and kind, willing to go the distance to find and bless parents-to-be as best he can. His focus would be on family bonds and stalwart natures. He'll probably ramble on about his own kids and mate forever and bore everyone to death.
