Even for living in the shadow wof the Obelisk, it seemed that he found the smallest excuse to pick fights with others, sometimes without introducing himself first, sometimes without speaknig so much as a word. It took them some time to realize the truth: an awkward nature and an inability to fully understand others kept him from meeting their eyes, and meant that it was easy for him to pick a fight than to say hello.
Picking fights was how he introduced himself to other kin. And, once they figured him out, it was how he made friends.

The skies were usually grey, the ground was cold and frozen, rocky, or bare dirt, the trees were a uniformly dark green with bits of brown peaking through. It left a lot to be desired.
But sometimes the sun did shine, and one clever young buck had noticed the way the light dazzled through the crystal shards of the obelisk, through the ice, through quartz shards and other crystals they found in the chilly caves in the mountains. He realized if he moved them just so they tossed rainbows around them. He also realized the more he had, the more he could play with that light. So he'd taken to stomping the crystals, shattering larger pieces into smaller ones and then arranging them carefully in clearings so as the sun passed the shattered shards caught the light and painted the mountain in rainbows.

After a while, she began to resemble the frenzied animals, and they thought she too, was charmed-mad.

The mountain changed, it changed and as it did, so did everything else. The creatures became dangerous and minds buzzed and thrummed with invasive anger. His tribe had been peaceful once, existing in the harsh environment with cunning and strength. When violence erupted he found himself forced to fight his kin, and more than that to face the creatures that made their way across the mountain. Over time, he changed, much as the creatures had, with his body struggling to cope with the influence.
He helped to bring down several of the assailants with the help of his family, but the fight took its toll on all of them. It was the Grazer who finally wiped out his expedition group. He made it back somehow, alone.
He was known as Almost Died
But the important part, was that he didn't.
