[PRP] Glow For Me [ Forgotten x Cue ]

As far as Once Forgotten was concerned, any amount of time spent caught by vines without his hooves planted firmly was on the ground was far too long for his liking. He struggled and kicked and snorted and swayed, but the vines would not budge. He stopped for a time to catch his breath and it was in that lull that he caught the sound of hooves. Ears perked up hopefully, he waited and was relieved to hear they were definitely coming in his direction.

When the doe appeared from the darkness only one thing caught his attention. It took a moment for him to process anything she had said, for here she was, a real life glowing Kimeti and his gaze was pinned upon her intricate markings. She doesn’t do thing by halves, does she? Oh. Cue Queue. Why, after their fight, would she still go so far as to send him the glowing Kimeti he had been searching for? 

“No… apparently not.” A rush of gratitude and shame for his heated words filled him. “Well…” Once Forgotten cleared his throat. “My name is Once Forgotten. My siblings and I are on a search to find our Kimeti father. We know only that he glowed, as his markings were passed down to us.” This was not the most dignified position and to be honest he felt a little silly hanging there, asking her about his parentage. “I thought it best to start by questioning any glowing Kimeti I could find…”

"There are many, many questions you will be asking then," she replied, making no move to free him just yet, "there are many, many Kimeti who glow. White on black, I see. Are all your siblings coloured like you?"

“I know the task will not be an easy one.” It had all seemed so much simpler back on the plains. “No they are not. The markings are similar but the colours are different. Green, red, orange…”

"Rather a lot of glowing colours from one buck," she considered, "but perhaps they come from varying parts. Glow can be a strange inheritance - I get my gold from my mother, Mudslide, but she glowed blue, as did her mother, Life-pulse. I have brothers who glow gold as I do...but judging from your wider markings, you are not of our line.

"Try to find a buck called Raven Dreams. He has streaks of glow in three colours, on a black pelt. If all your siblings are dark-pelted as well, that might be a better place to start than many. And I suppose I ought to help you down from there?"

It was interesting to learn how the glowing markings had been past down his line, but what was even better was that she had a name for him. A name! “I am grateful for you help. I will search for him.”  This was the best lead he had gotten so far and he grasped it desperately, repeating ‘Raven Dreams’ in his head until it was imprinted upon his mind. “Ah…” Once Forgotten peered down at the ground and wriggled, feeling the vines coiled tight around him. “… if you could?”

"You're not the first buck I've helped out of a vine trap," she said, sauntering over and starting to sever key lines with practised ease, "and I doubt you'll be the last." A click, a snap, a few well-place tugs - and the vines no longer held.

She stepped back neatly before she could suffer any collateral damage, "I will ask around on your behalf, though I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you. Come to the food store at the edge of the salt marshes if you wish to speak to me again."

Without waiting for an answer, she had begun to retread her path. Just before she threatened to blend back into the swamp, she paused and tossed over her shoulder: "...Or Cue."

“Then this is a common occurrence in the swamp?” Once Forgotten asked with a puzzled frown. He did not have time to enquire any further on the subject as he was suddenly set free. He dropped heavily to the ground with in a tangle of vines and legs. But he wasn’t down for long. A kick and roll, and the Kiokote drove upright. Throwing his head back, he stamped about for a moment to remember exactly what it felt like to have his hooves on firm ground.

He stopped in order to listen to what she was saying, dipping his head in a grateful nod. To know where to find her was a great boon… and Cue, well… perhaps an apology was on order on his behalf. “Oh… and thank you! I am in your debt!” He boomed as she disappeared from view.

Then she was gone and Once Forgotten set off to find his siblings.
