[ PRP ] Awareness [ Mimicry x Withered ]

Post by Blinded By Silence »

[imgleft]http://matope.pixel-blueberry.com/image ... uncert.png[/imgleft]Nearly half a moon had passed since Mimicry found herself in the care of the Mothborn. The quiet doe had been invited to stay, quite a few time by the stammering dark buck who had found her injured songbird, and once, officially, by Rot, who was apparently the elder of this tribe. This puzzled Mimicry, for Rot was a far cry from someone of that age and much kinder than any elders she had ever come across. She was grateful either way, but settling in was a bit uncomfortable.

Mimicry had never met tribal kin before. Everything flowed around her in perfect fluidic harmony. Every kin had a job, a purpose, and they were respected for them and their contributions equally. The whole thing was so foreign to her, she felt like a stone in the way of a river, everything parting around her and leaving her behind.

She did her best to help where she could, but her lack of communication made things very difficult. Game after frustrating game of charades left Mimicry exhausted and often at the mercy of kin she didn't know. Thankfully, Withered Fungus, the dark buck whose eyes she kept meeting, always seemed to arrive just in time to save her. More often than not, she would catch herself smiling at his arrival. While he didn't quite get what she was saying word for word, he caught on to the general idea of what he wanted to say much faster than most kin. It was very nice, being understood for once.

Today, as the sun seeped into the nesting area and Mimicry rose, shaking the moss from her fur, she decided to cut to the chase and find him first. She ducked her head through the curtain of lichen and stepped out into the early morning, making her way down the well worn paths that lead to the groves. When at last she arrived to Withered's small damp cave, she gave a pleasant twittering of good morning, wondering if he had risen yet.

[imgleft]https://matope.pixel-blueberry.com/imag ... uncert.png[/imgleft]The last few weeks had held some of the most glorious times of Withered Fungus’ life. He had come to feel more and more deeply for this quiet doe that only spoke in birdsong. He had found that he understood her fairly well m, despite no words emanating from her lips. He wandered the woods in a daze for most of his waking hours. More often than not, however, he would find himself wandering toward where Mimicry had been staying, only to get there as she was desperately struggling to communicate with other members of his tribe.

It was on such an occasion that he had caught her  staring at him and smiling, not a smile of thanks, but one of a different emotion, one he could not identify in another, but that he himself may feel. He decided he would make a conscious effort to stay away from the grove where Mimicry stayed, at least for a few days, to try and clear his head. He had been neglecting his duties and his grove showed A weariness from his absence.

One morning, as he wandered around the outskirt of his land, tidying up and searching for spores, he caught a glimpse of movement in the woods near him. He moved quietly, and cautiously, to a position in which he could identify what had he had seen.

His heart started pounding as he saw Mimicry enter his grove and approach the earthen hovel he called home. She twittered a good morning at him, but he had a plan. As quiet as he could, he moved out of the woods behind her, attempting to sneak up on her, and thusly ignoring her call of salutations. As he got about ten feet behind her, a peculiar feeling rose in his nose. Despite trying his hardest to suppress it, a roar of a sneeze lept from his face and echoed amongst the trees.

[imgleft]http://matope.pixel-blueberry.com/image ... uncert.png[/imgleft]She had paused, peering into the shallow cave where the dark buck slept. His scent lingered, he had been here recently. Where had he--?

Before she could finish the thought, a sudden explosion of sound erupted from behind her. She jumped, nearly out of her skin, a sharp cry like that of an eagle tore from her lips as she landed. Panicked, she spun around, her yellow eyes darting around until at last resting on Withered, shaking the sneeze from his nose.

She panted for a moment, trying to catch her breath. Failing to do so, she felt her breath hitch and soon her sides her splitting with laughter. Mimicry's laughter usually sounded soft and gentle, like the twittering of small, sweat birds, but this laugh came from the belly. A true laugh, like a kookaburra causing a racket it the treetops. Tears streamed from her eyes and with a wheezing sigh, she fell back on her haunches and did her best to swallow her laughter. She kept her eyes low, embarrassed at all the noise she had made, but found herself peeking up at him through her hair sheepishly.

[imgleft]https://matope.pixel-blueberry.com/imag ... uncert.png[/imgleft]Recovering from his sneeze, he was suddenly startled at the cacophony of noise from mimicry's laughter. as she recovered, and hid coyly in her embarrassment, he felt a warmth rise up in him. Mustering his courage, he leaned forward and nuzzled her chin, lifting up her face as he did. As her hair fell from her face, their eyes locked and a shimmer of adoration danced across his face. He held his head there, close to hers for a moment before retreating a few inches away, never breaking eye contact.

[imgleft]http://matope.pixel-blueberry.com/image ... uncert.png[/imgleft]She hadn't realized that she had been holding her breath until he touched her. Just the simple brushing of his fur against hers as he lifted her chin with his muzzle made her gasp lightly. It was like static, she couldn't explain it. Instead, she just stared at him with wide eyes and red cheeks, a shy smile spreading across her lips.

This buck was different, she had known that back in the grove when they had first met. But it was now, standing before his nest, seeing his reaction at her true laugh, that she knew.

She inhaled deeply and closed her eyes, reveling in his presence for just a moment before letting her breath out in a happy sigh. She nuzzled him back before stepping away. She gestured towards the main part of the tribe lands, blinking slowly at him with a playful look in her eyes. She would think back on this later, but for now, there was work to do. Especially if she planned on staying.

[imgleft]https://matope.pixel-blueberry.com/imag ... uncert.png[/imgleft]She had come here for a reason, to get him. He realized this as she gestured deeper into the tribe lands. She must be having trouble talking to the others. It was a problem he had seen her have several times, and he had been able to, in some way, decipher what she meant to say from the myriad of noises she would make. As he went to take a step, he nodded, smiling peacefully. He took a breath before starting to move in the direction she had indicated, careful to keep pace with Mimicry. He enjoyed walking through the woods with her, every step its own adventure, and no way to know where the next step would take him. He walked a little closer to her this time. So close that his shoulders would sometimes brush against hers as they stepped. He would walk until he collapsed, so long as she was there next to him. Time held no weight, he was happy, and nothing could relinquish him of the feeling.
