Link to current cert:This totoma has name - i finally did it - Name Origin: It was a warm Summer's day and there were foals everywhere with energy aplenty. Spring had come and gone and the little ones were up on their feet to explore the vast lands of the mountains. One Totoma, however, did not like the events happening around him - for all he saw were vulnerable and naive foals being bribed and swayed by 'sweet offerings' proposed to them by predators pretending to be part of their tribe. He knew that they would be led astray, perhaps being eaten along the way, and never to be seen again. He knew that they did not see the danger of going with strangers into the unknown lands, so he stepped in every time to stop the little lambs from making bad decisions before it was too late. Over time, his bright appearance and snappy attitude was known throughout the mountains. They call him the Deal Breaker.

Unlike her siblings who stood tall and took charge, she simply went with the flow of things. She waited in the background while her siblings shined brightly. Her father saw this and, before bed, each night would tell her the story of the Silver-Fish. There is a little saying among kin, that silver-fish are invisible until they leave the water. It is a saying that means "those who want to be seen, will make themselves seen." He would tell her tales of how this little fish lived her life below the surface of the water, wanting only the quiet of being undisturbed. She is gentle, like a slow current, following wherever life takes her without a word of complaint. But at the end of each tale, when she is ready, she leaps out of the water in a flash of blinding light and the whole world will see her at last.
She knew that the stories were her father's way of making her feel better. She loved them and held them close to her heart, knowing that one day, she too will be a Silver-Fish, when she is ready.

She would leave her family and wander the swamp alone, before returning covered in mud and full of secrets. One day, on the cusp of adulthood, she came back with an egg. Tenderly she watched over it until it hatched.
A snake! Her family was horrified. Stand aside, they ordered, we shall kill it.
But she refused and threatened to fight them, defending the newly hatched creature as if it was her own child. She left them that day and returned many months later, the snake still with her, curled contently on her back plate.
‘This is my Baby,’ she said, daring them to question her.
They nodded and said, ‘And you are a Snake Mother.’

Surely, his name should reflect his tendency to challenge his elders to fights simply for the fun of it and snapping at the wildlife just to see it run off. Indeed, the time came when a cat crept from the swamps, seeking easier, slower prey to catch. It would be no match for most kin, but the thing didn't have its eyes fixed on them. It was after some foals, laying off the themselves in the grass. Little did it realize that it was being stalked as well. The young Totomas were startled away when the beast let out a surprised yowl, turning to see him standing behind it, its now-lost tail tip hanging from his mouth. The thing quickly fled back the way it came at risk of losing another chunk of itself to the toothy Totoma earning his name: Bites-Off.
