[B] Reborn (Unmade x Peep)

But what was normally a time of solitude and reflection had turned, instead, to revelry. The Winter Market was here.

There was warmth and laughter, songs and stories, and even freshly tended chickens. Was it any surprise, then, that she had made the choices that she had? When life called, she answered.

It was too early to tell, and she too inexperienced to know... but she felt her answer had been heard.

A group of foals passed by Unmade, laughing and jostling, spindly legs sometimes slipping on the icy ground. They were attended by members of The Mothers Club, a Totoma that chuckled as she stopped one intrepid youngster from running straight for someone's lynx familiar, and a gruff Kiokote that led the way towards the area they'd claimed as their own this Winter Market. Following behind them was the Acha doe, her pace slowing to a halt so that she could turn her glowing eyes towards the pale doe.

"The winter has given you a blessing," she said, smiling warmly. "Congratulations."

Unmade braced a stumbling foal against her side, but what gratification she might have felt from preventing a fall was quickly overrun with panic when her own hooves slipped. She righted herself instantaneously, instinctively; when thought caught up to action, she realized she was leaning on a petite doe, and had sprayed them both with snow.

"It—it has," she managed to say; certainly, it was a blessing the Acha had been there so she didn't fall face-first onto the ice. She was comforted by the doe's calm gaze (at least, what she could see of it above the snow), and her breathing slowed to something resembling normal.

"I'm so sorry, but I'm glad you were here. Now instead of just me looking foolish, it can be both of us, no?" She laughed, and began to dig the Acha out. But wait—had the doe congratulated her?

Peep was small but sturdy, a solid presence for Unmade to right herself with. It certainly didn't bother her to be a shoulder to lean on, even with the cold spray of cold included.

In fact, she laughed merrily as she flicked snow from her ears.

When it came to digging, a foxbun was far more useful and her little paws did short work of the snow.  She popped free a moment later and sat diligently grooming herself until she was satisfied enough to look up at Unmade with an obvious smile.

Unmade gasped, delighted; the foxbun was so charming! She only barely restrained from wriggling where she stood, but her eyes were bright and her smile was wide.

"Are you back there?" she asked, peering at the snow as she recalled the speed dating booth and the doe that had spoken for the mantis. "Or..." Gently, she pressed her nose to the foxbun's.

Fluffy little paws gently reached up for Unmade’s face as their noses touched and the white Acha was granted a gentle foxbun smooch.

Pat pat went a little paw.

Then in the blink of an eye and with a graceful step back, Peep was an Acha again.

“Would you walk with me to catch up with my tribe?” She asked with an excited little grin.

"O-of course!" Unmade said, wide-eyed. "Anything. Anything you ask."

She was young, and in love. Not, perhaps, romantically speaking, yet she knew of no other word to describe the feeling. There was an enthusiastic skip in her step to match Peep's excitement, and she could not help but to sneak glances at the other doe as they walked; each time their eyes met, she felt a deep warmth within her.

They made a sprightly pair, almost dancing through the snow, the Legendary a warm and loving presence beside her newfound companion. Each time the white doe glanced her way, Peep made sure there was a smile waiting for her.

“So tell me, do you have any children?” She asked as they walked side by side. There was a bright sparkle in her eyes, as if she knew the answer already.

"I don't," she said, half distracted. A few bits of snow clung to her despite the vigorous shaking she'd done after they'd reached firmer ground; her eyes were crossed, and she appeared to be engrossed with trying to lick the snow off the tip of her nose.

She had very little go on; with anyone else, she would have been too embarrassed to say anything more, but the doe's ready smiles and solid strength were still fresh in her mind. She glanced down, fruitlessly trying to quell her blush. "But... I might."

Suddenly, it did not seem so important to get the snow off.

That was all Peep needed to hear.

She leaned in, licking Unmade's nose free of snow and then looking upon her with the adoring gaze of a mother cleaning her foal's face clean.

"You are," she confirmed.

Unmade felt no doubt and asked no questions; gazing into those glowing eyes, the only thing she felt was certainty.

The knowledge came like relief. When she next exhaled she could feel herself unwind, the guesswork and the hopes replaced with the beginnings of a plan. A nest would have to be made, food would need to be stored, family members alerted, the father found if possible and notified, and all the other minutiae that came with the children. It would be frightening, and tiring, and exhilarating all at once.

"Thank you," she said, tucking her head beneath the smaller doe's, the motion as natural as if Peep were her own mother. "Thank you for letting me know."

“You’re very welcome,” Peep said, accepting Umade’s head beneath her own just as naturally, giving the gentlest of rubs. “You would have known for sure soon enough but even a little extra time helps.” Especially in winter.

“And may they thrive,” she murmured, “beautiful and kind, bringing spring with their gentle smiles.” A soft blessing like a warm hug.

“And of course, if you have any need, I will assist you with anything and everything. There is no need for you to fear any of this, my dear. Go forward knowing all will be well.” For a foxbun would keep her warm and lion would guard her.

The words felt like promise. There in the snow, on the fringes of the market and in the heart of winter, she knew life had heard her, and had answered back.
