Soft Sigh gave a little yawn as she adjusted the bedding in her den. She'd found a nice little cave to call home recently, large enough for herself and her two familiars. Tuftytoes was already hunkered down, her tail making a great home for Waddlepuff to slumber in. The doe gave a little smile at her two companions before she too laid her head down and drifted off to sleep.
She was woken up by a sharp noise outside the cave, a sound that made the fur along her neck stand up. It was a strange sensation since her fur really wasn't that long, but in this moment she felt like she had a whole mane! Glancing around, she noticed she wasn't quite the same height as she usually was. A look down and Soft Sigh saw she had paws! What was going on?
"Tuftytoes?" she called out in a weak voice, nerves keeping her from sounding tough. But her voice was strange, too. Her mouth had more teeth - pointy teeth at that - and her tail trembled even as it was fluffed out. She was a wolf...and there was another wolf in the mouth of the den! Although she couldn't make out the markings right away, the incredible scent that hit her nose let her know it was her companion.
Tuftytoes' body language let her know she'd chased off a curious critter but all was well. Relieved, Soft Sigh moved to the mouth of the little cave and the two wolves fell silent, using their noses and ears to locate any other potential threats. Despite her normally gentle nature, Soft Sight felt as though she and Tuftytoes could take on the world together.
A quiet quack from behind them had both wolves turning to face Waddlepuff. The little duckling looked so cold all by his lonesome, so Soft Sigh returned to wrap around the tiny creature while Tuftytoes stood watch. She could hear much better than usual and it was comforting to smell the little fluffy duckling near her, his downy feathers a wonderful scent and texture to behold.
"No wonder Tuftytoes enjoys sleeping with him so much," she mused to herself with a little laugh. Now that the swamp outside their little den was quiet again, Tuftytoes returned to Soft Sigh and Waddlepuff. She flopped down next to them, creating an even bigger pile of fluff for the little duckling to enjoy. Soft Sigh shifted to rest her muzzle on Tuftytoe's side, content to fall back to sleep just like this.
When she woke again she was still curled up with Tuftytoes and Waddlepuff, but she was back to her old self. She looked down at her hooves and gave her nose a little twitch, followed by her ears and her tail. Yup, back to normal. She glanced at the mouth of the cave to find it was morning.
"What a strange dream," she murmured, looking down at her two companions with a fond smile. "But I'm glad we were all friends in it still."
