[BLESS] Interruptions (Lull in Sunlight x Gold Rush)

Post by anemosagkelos »

Lull in Sunlight was not a young mare—that was not an admission of age. She'd off-handedly encouraged others to ascend for years so that she could ignore the entire duty of blessing others. Life was not a game of hide-and-seek, so what sense did it make for them to receive something for finding her? And it had worked, usually, for such a long time that she was . . . Well, something curled in her belly.

The petulant thought of why now flared, especially when she was hot on the heels of Doom who was long overdue for a tongue lashing. It was an insult that the other mare hadn't consulted her before taking Clear Blue out on a hunt. That was her relative, not Doom's and she knew the other mare had done it on purpose. Maybe she'd knock up one of the mare's relatives in retaliation.

With a huff, the mare stared down at the sleeping acha. Fine. She would bless this one. But only if she woke up within the next hour. She was busy; she had things to do. She couldn't stand here and wait around.

In a display of annoyance, Lull in Sunlight shifted. An owlcat, a shadow, and a gryphon stood watch. She hoped the acha was terrified.

In fact, the acha in question was not terrified but dismayed at the situation. Not only did they lose all sense, but so now they were chasing both a legendary AND a long, large snake. Today was a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. It didn't make sense why the snake decided to go on an adventure today of all days. Luck was not on their side. It was awful. She was hot. Sticky. And very grumpy at the world. It was probably why she didn't notice the sinking, lurking shadows and may have steppe don some tails.

YEOWCH!
Gold Rush jumped back in alarm.

The owlcat yowl that ricocheted around the woods was not a good sign. And even though, it was herself, Lull in Sunlight still had a to fight a snicker.

"Aren't acha supposed to be graceful?" Lull asked as she let the shadows melt away. The gryphon stayed, eyes piercing, while the owlcat vanished in annoyance. There was no reason she'd put her body on the line of being trampled on again. Contrary to belief, she did learn. It was usually just how to make others lives harder for annoying her, though.

"Are you blind? Can you not see the watermelon I'm holding" snapped the acha. When defensive, she became unruly and antagonistic. It was a terrible trait, but Gold Rush was quick to anger. Even if she were in the wrong like this case.

"I'd be a lot more graceful were it not for this thing. I love it, but I cannot wait for the day where I am not carrying double my weight. You try it! You look decrepit." She was burying herself in the hole.

If it was possible, Lull in Sunlight's eyes narrowed further.

"I've done it, twice, without needing to seek a Legendary at all," she snapped, not about to take such rudeness from anyone. "But since you think I'm so old, I guess I'll just leave you to it, child." She grinned, a quirk of her mouth that pretended to be demure while announcing that she was a lot more bite than bark.

The mare shimmered, going translucent and threatening to disappear altogether, as the gryphon hopped upward on it's hindlegs and began to flap it's wings.

Gold Rush's heart sank. She knew what she had to do it and it would be more painful and humbling than giving birth.

"Ok, I'm sorry" the acha blurted out.

"I really need you're help and you're not that old. Like not ancient."
"You're still um useful" wheezed the idiotic, pregnant acha.

It wasn't the most praising of apology, but Lull in Sunlight would take it.

"It seems you are not hopeless and do have some manners," the mare allowed. She was solidified as the gryphon vanished.

Approaching the miserable acha, she sighed, and looked at the expectant mother.

"It doesn't last," she offered after a thought, "the pain and the discomfort." It wasn't much of a comfort now, but it gave some semblance of hope, at least. "Now, what is it you wish for these nuisances?"

To die in embarrassment.
But she had enough grace to not say that part out loud. She wasn't completely hopeless and didn't want to prove the magnanimous kimeti wrong so quickly. Gold Rush had a feeling she was on thin ice and the doe was very short on time and patience. She didn't think the Kimeti would take kindly if she asked if they were a Mare or legendary. Ask a stupid question. Her face grimaced.

"Look, I know I'll be a lousy mother, but at least I don't want them hating me or falling into a caiman's mouth. I want them to grow up safe and happy? I think that's it."

"If you try and you do your best, then you won't be a lousy mother. You'll make mistakes, but we all do that," Lull in Sunlight offered the doe before looking up at the sky and taking a breath.

Safe and happy was easy; it was almost too easy, in her opinion. She'd make it better.

"Your children will be happy and know that their life is a gift. They shall be safe and strong with the wisdom to spot enemies and avoid injury," she started. "And they will know that honey is the best way to get what they want in life."

She grinned, it was always nice to add a lesson in there.

Gobsmacked, Gold Rush couldn't help but grin. It was more than she asked so it was okay if the Mare got the last dig in. She deserved it after all. Everything was going to be okay, and for the first time this pregnancy, she felt hopeful.

"Thank you. And um, sorry about your tail."
