WHAM BAM OH GOD THE TORTOISES ALL ESCAPED

Post by Scaramouche Fandango »

Strange Creature sighed, looking at the tattered remains of her booth. Where had she gone wrong? Why had she fallen apart? She had so many grand plans, so many things she'd wanted to accomplish. And yet...

And yet...

She knew why.

Her booth "helpers" had finally arrived. Boisterous, blustery, and full of boundless energy, the tortoisey Totomas had arrived. And like most, if not all tortoises, they... burrowed.

ImageImageImageImage

So now here she stands, her earthwork wall shattered, and tortoises everywhere. Turtles, too. Fortunately, they were pretty slow, so even though all of her well-laid plans had gone to absolute chaos (between a sick tegu and some other issues, she just didn't have the time), she could still salvage this. She could still pawn tortoises and turtles off onto unwitting kin.

She just... needed to be smart about it. That was all.

Turtle and Tortoise Time with Strange Creature - Trivia Game Open!

What’s In The Burrow? Dice Game!

Tortoise burrows aren’t just for tortoises– they’re used by many members of the animal kingdom! This is why tortoises are considered landscape architects. For this game, you’re going to stick your head in a big ol’ tortoise burrow and see what’s inside.

To play this game, roll 7d20 and see what you get.

1. You find a cache of dried grass. Delicious…? 1 piece of hay
2. You find a sleepy tegu. 2 pieces of hay.
3. You find a small bitey mammal and it is furious. 1 piece of hay, and a nosebleed.
4. You find a whole hibernating mini bear. Awww! 2 pieces of hay.
5. You find an awake mini bear. Fortunately, it’s pretty docile. 1 piece of hay.
6. You find a grumpy skunk. OH NO! No pieces of hay.
7. You find a clutch of tortoise eggs. 1 piece of hay.
8. You find a clutch of tortoise eggs… well, the egg shells. You also find a fat tegu. Is this a coincidence? 1 piece of hay.
9. You find a tor- wait no this is a turtle. 2 pieces of hay.
10. You find a tortoise… shell. Oh, this guy’s been dead for a while. 1 piece of hay.
11. You find a pile of miscellaneous small animal bones and several tufts of downy fur. Looks like a small carnivore is using this as a den. 1 piece of hay.
12. You find some marshfowl. You get pecked a little. 2 pieces of hay.
13. You find several stolen items- little trinkets and the like. A rox chitters at you angrily for messing around with its stash. 2 pieces of hay.
14. You find that this hole is just crawling with slugs and snails. Ew. Or delicious, depending on your perspective on escargot. 1 piece of hay, mais oui.
15. You find a pool of muddy water. It could be a refuge during the hot months, but for now, it’s just a mud puddle. 1 piece of hay.
16. You find several tegus and they all want to be your friend. 2 pieces of hay.
17. You find… oh my god someone’s kid is down here, they say they’re playing hide and seek. You don’t need to worry, because tortoise burrows are really stable and more difficult to collapse than most burrows, but like. Wow. A whole child fit in here. 2 pieces of hay.
18. You find nothing; unfortunately, a swan finds you. How did a swan get in here and why does it want to kill you so badly? No pieces of hay, you have to flee the swan.
19. You find a whole bunch of owlcat kittens. They are screaming. 2 pieces of hay and tinnitus.
20. You found a tortoise! A pick from the unedited/familiar prize pool if you’re the first person OR the last person to roll a 20, otherwise 3 pieces of hay.

Once you’re done, fill out this form! You can stick it in a new post or edit or do whatever you want.
I found a lot of stuff!
Roll 1: NUMBER = X pieces of hay
Roll 2: NUMBER = X pieces of hay
Roll 3: NUMBER = X pieces of hay
Roll 4: NUMBER = X pieces of hay
Roll 5: NUMBER = X pieces of hay
Roll 6: NUMBER = X pieces of hay
Roll 7: NUMBER = X pieces of hay

Total pieces of hay: Y pieces of hay

These pieces of hay translate to tickets for the weekly raffle.

Here’s how you’ll get tickets for the end raffle:
If you rolled, you get 2 tickets for the end raffle.
If you RP a reaction, you get 2 extra tickets for the end raffle.
The person with the least amount of hay gets 5 hibiscus flowers. Perseverance pays off!

This game runs from... now until the end of WM on the 3rd. It's gonna be a fast turnaround, friends.

Appetite had heard about turtle burrows and she'd assumed that this idea of sticking one's head inside was an egg hunt for food. She'd thought wrong, of course.

The first burrow, she didn't even get a look inside as something snapped its teeth at her. She felt the blood leaking out of her nose and was not smart enough to stop. The second burrow she did find eggs but then someone had cleared their throat loudly and looked at her menacingly when she tried to take one. The third was only shells and somehow that was more upsetting than the nosebleed she'd gotten from the first one.

A fourth burrow yielded trinkets and an irritated rox that was clearly telling her to get lost. Who was she to argue with that? And then a child? Appetite shrieked in surprise and growled, irritated. Another burrow and again it was occupied, but with a turtle now. And the last, only a shell. She huffed, what a waste of time.

All she had to show for it was 10 pieces of hay. What was she going to do with that? It didn't even taste good!

REVERSE TRIVIA TIME

Post by Scaramouche Fandango »

After shepherding some tortoises to their new homes, Strange Creature looks out at the remaining tortoises, her mouth a grim line.

So. What's to be done? Her booth helpers are not helping, but maybe you can. How?

Simple. It's time for... REVERSE TRIVIA.

Here's the deal: Until Winter Market is over, you will provide the tortoise trivia. Post up to 10 times with a turtle or tortoise fact. You can post 10 in a row. You can wait for other people to post. You can post them individually or all in one post. Don't worry about forms or anything. This is casual. Super casual. This is so casual it hurts. (no, really, y'all know how much I like running speed trivia but like. This December has absolutely sucked for me and I just couldn't get it done.)

Each of these facts is worth 1 ticket for the final raffle. You can get up to 10! This game ends at midnight EST on the 3rd, and I'll roll the final raffle the morning of the 4th.

Roll 4: 3 = 1 pieces of hay

Roll 6: 16 = 2 pieces of hay

Total pieces of hay: 9

Story wanted to help his friend however he could ... And if that meant learning about tortoise burrows by sticking his significant snout into a few of them then so be it.

He felt relatively pleased that the first few holes seemed relatively innocuous, but then he stuck his head into one with a very angry furry something, and came out with his nose bleeding where he'd been bitten. He paused to give Strange Creature a loving, but slightly put-out, glance and then went back to it.

Only for a much different angry furry thing to spray defensively in his face. First a bite to the nose and then skunk spray straight to the face? He wasn't sure he was up to continuing and he took a moment to rinse out his eyes and calm himself down. He gathered himself by promising it would only be two more holes. That was it. He could get through two more holes, right?

He stuck his head in a burrow and was immediately and pleasantly surprised by a whole lot of tegus that wanted so much to sniff him out and be his friend. Story was more than willing to let this happen and laid down on the ground so they could climb and explore amongst the foliage and mud that made up his back. This definitely more than made up for skunk funk.

Once they were done and had moved on to new and other exciting things he put his face into one more burrow. It wasn't much, just a muddy hole, but the large buck couldn't say he was displeased by ending on something so uneventful.

He found Strange Creature, gave her a gentle nose touch to her cheek, and then left to find somewhere to bathe.
