Sparkling Sunrise was excited to give the hill climb another try. She trotted happily up to the border of the booth, and then screeched to a stop right at the edge. She teetered for a moment, remembering that there were tiny friends skittering around that she needed to be mindful of. A small yelp and then a thump advertised her falling over. "Oops!" she piped, righting herself and shaking some errant dirt and flower petals off her back. The shards around her body chimed with the contact. She settled her hooves and stared at the hill.

"Let's have a lot of fun today!" she called as she began to climb. Her experience last time told her not to rush, that it was much steeper than it looked. Her careful steps and pacing allowed her to get much higher for a start than last time. She giggled as she looked down at the others waiting their turn.

Sparkling Sunrise found herself in a more unstable part of the hill. There were loose rocks and branches in several spots, and she knew her heavy totoma hooves would upset them if she wasn't careful. She turned her attention away from the steadily shrinking onlookers and forced herself to focus a bit more on her footing.

It took a little longer to make progress, but the young totoma found herself a little further up the hill. She hadn't fallen down! Yet. That was the important part. Taking a deep breath, she continued on for a little longer, aware of the strain in her legs starting to feel sore.

The footing was getting a little more stable, with bigger rocks and more packed dirt, the further Sparkling Sunrise got up. She was definitely thankful for the change. The young totoma pulled herself up over a particularly large rock to find herself much higher than she had been the last time she tried this game. She stopped for a few moments and took some deep breaths, shaking out her hooves to relieve some of the strain from pulling herself up.

Sparkling Sunrise lifted a hoof to continue further up the hill, and as she was pulling herself up, the rock under her gave way. She yelped with surprise as she tumbled tail over horns back to the bottom again. "Whoops!" she called. "I got a little higher though! That was fun!"

Story watched the totoma with the tinkling shards in her thick coat come back for a second time and smiled gently. She had such determination, and he had to admit to a certain amount of curiosity. He knew they carried shards in them from the same obelisk that had meant deep trauma for him and those he held with love in his heart, and he'd heard of the group of kin that had been split between two different types of ache- He'd just never met one before.

He nodded to her enthusiasm for his silly game and called out to her.

"You did very well! Would you like to come have a drink and some hearty food now that you've finished?"

A few days after her first attempt, Little Voices and her small gang returned. This time the number had increased by one. She let them scurry about and bond for a moment before they all climbed aboard and she took off on another hike.

Lotusflower was still a little bit shy about being part of the larger group and was nestled in Mossflower's hair, close to her ear. She spoke to him gently, when she had the breath for it, giving him soft affirmations, which he replied to with soft, little squeaks.

Little Voices continued to climb the mountain until she reached a familiar place, she'd definitely stopped her last time. She remembered that exact tree and that boulder. And just like before, her strength had run out. With a little sigh, she turned back around, taking herself and her friends back to the start.
