Strange Creature didn't really remember what had happened with the lions. She remembered... trying it, she thought. She remembered the smell of the cats, that electrifying vitality, the strength of the muscles rippling under the fur... but other than that, it was a blur. She remembered fear, but not terror- and she remembered deep down, liking it almost a little.

It was enough to encourage her to try it again.

She stepped into the grove and felt the cats' power before she even saw them. They were so strange to her, so alien. The ferocity in their eyes was unmatched; it was practically unrivaled. She understood why somebody would want to work with them. She knew that her reptiles inspired many things in many people- fear, admiration, love. She loved them, and she understood that the cats were loveable, too, even if they weren't her cup of tea. That sheer power, that awe-inspiring aura; it was enough to pull you in. That, she supposed, was why she was really back, even if she didn't remember anything from the first time.

As she approached the great cat, she saw a spark in its eyes. This one, a smaller individual, was barely more than a cub. She could still see hints of baby spots in its fur. It was a trainee, and perhaps not as dangerous as the adults- but even "less dangerous" did not mean safe. Not when it came to a big cat. She noticed how massive its feet were; this little one was going to be huge in a few years. She clicked the little device in her hand. "Up!" she said, encouraging the lion to hop up on the pedestal.

Once the cat was up, she clicked the clicker again. "Good! Good job!" Did lions like being praised? She wasn't brave- or foolish- enough to reach out and pet the lion. Even if the overgrown cub was little more than a kitten, she knew how sharp the claws and teeth were, and how powerful and strong the animal was. Even if it wasn't trying, it could still easily accidentally hurt her. Young animals never knew their own strength, and older animals did- and both were two different kinds of dangerous. She respected the lion's boundaries, even if it did look extremely soft and pettable.

She didn't want to take her eyes off of the lion, but she did want some guidance. "What next?" she called, sensing a pair of not-so-leonine eyes on her. She hoped the real lion tamer was listening, but didn't hear anything in response.

That made sense, actually. Two people giving vocal commands would probably just be confusing. Instead, she looked around to see what others were doing. "Sit pretty!" she said, firmly and authoritatively, even though the command sounded silly to her. She knew that a strong tone of voice helped animals know what you wanted. It was important to have the illusion of control.

The lion sank to its haunches, tucking its front paws into its chest. Strange Creature smiled- it was outright cute! Sitting like that was very charming, and she could see how it was a good bridge behavior into other, more complicate maneuvers. She clicked the device and called out more praise for the overgrown kitten.

Why yes! Clapping her hands, Strange Creature heaped mountains of lavish praise upon the lion. Satisfied, it slinked away, done with training for the day. She was happy to let it go; it had performed so well for her!
