Death rolled over on to his back so that he could stare out into the never ending darkness of the sky. He would have to go inside his home soon as the temperature was dropping steadily but for now he would just lay here. It wasn't very often that he would think of the past but for some reason tonight seemed just as good as any. He hadn't seen his parents or siblings in a long time... maybe he would give that a good and visit them. As soon as the thought came in his head, he dismissed it. Sometimes being alone was better and wasn't that cryptic thought. Was he meant to be alone? Did being alone truly protect him? When your kin was young, they had one particular trinket that caused them great joy -- either one day, or over a period of long time. What was this object? Why was it special? How did they come across it?
Death snorted and rolled over to his side to dispel the depressing thoughts. A flash of light made him look down. The soft sounds of grass moving along with this head. The light of the moon had caused his jewel to glow. It was a pretty thing that had been with him for most of his life. He could recall the day he found it still after all these years. He had wandered away from his clutch to get some space when, curse his foal legs, he tripped and hit his head on a rock. How embarrassing. Thank the MotherFather he had been alone or he would be teased to no end! But it would seem the jewel he found underneath said rock had been worth it. The colour was a deep gold that had shone so bright in the sun, it had to be his. And so he claimed it as his own for many years. How funny that his good luck charm now had been his downfall in his past.
This certainly was a reflective night. He let out a sigh before getting up and heading in for bed. Making sure to clutch his jewel in his tail tightly. One day he'll have to figure out a way to carry his prized possession more efficiently.
