Favorite Childhood Object (Guardian of Life)

Guardian remembered clearly that when she was younger she had a small thing she loved so much. It was a silly thing to love she supposed, after all it was just a rock. A really smooth, but really shiny rock. It caught the light just right, and she liked to just move it back and forth, watching it shimmer in the light. It was a pale rock, and it felt like it was living rainbows inside of it. She'd been walking along a bank when she'd seen it lying there half buried in the mud, the sun catching it just right. Carefully she had unearthed it and cleaned it up, delighting at what she'd found. When your kin was young, they had one particular trinket that caused them great joy -- either one day, or over a period of long time. What was this object? Why was it special? How did they come across it?
It was an easy size for her to carry around in her mouth as she walked, but large enough she couldn't easily swallow it, which had been a concern. She had the rock for quite awhile. Months, really, but one day she'd come across a tribe of kin, and in it was a bunch of younger kin likeĀ her, including a bunch of bucks. She'd spat out her rock to show it off, only to be ridiculed for carrying it like she did, because they thought it was gross of her to do that. A few of the bucks had teased her mercilessly, getting between her and her rock, while another slightly older one took off with it, and threw it down a deep hole with a triumphant smirk. Not because he liked it, or wanted it, but because he thought she was strange for carrying it with her, for a simple, pretty stone to make her so happy. No matter how hard she tried she couldn't get it out, and was laughed at more by the bucks.
Their parents didn't even do anything about it, just told her to forget about it and move on. Nothing more. She'd never seen a rock like that since.
