Clippings and dead flowers plucked and pruned from their mother-plants get added to the pile of compost used to nurture the growth of new plants each spring. Each tiny seedling, growing sprout, and robust sapling are lovingly tended in a cycle that is as ingrained as the roots of the oldest tree in the swamp. Refresh has seen the care taken by the Grovetenders to nurture the offerings given, and has known the simple joys of watching a thing grow their entire life.

More than that, Refresh is almost entirely deaf, which makes choosing some of the other paths far from ideal. In this, however, he does not need words to communicate to get his intention across. The offering of a flower to one who is expecting new life - or grieving the passing of another - are as heartfelt as any words could be, perhaps even more so when they have been lovingly tended and grown by his own care.

Quiet, introspective, and kind, Refresh is a gentle and caring soul with a profound sense of respect for the balance of life and death, and sees it every day in the way a strangling vine, doing only what nature intends of it, might choke the life from a tree in order to itself survive - or in the way pruning back one overzealous plant might give another a better chance at growth. He looks forward to announcing his decision, and hopes to do his parents and the tribe proud.
