He liked it less when he ran into Keeper. And he liked it least of all when they found themselves in a part of the forest with glowing rocks, carved bark, and shimmering pools, with a fortuneteller that heavily implied they could gain insight into their love lives by staring at pieces of trees.
"You can't really see the future," he declared, his nose high in the air. "This is a waste of time."
"Oh, I don't know about that," Keeper said. They'd had their fortunes read earlier, and the buck had been reserved ever since. "There might be something to it. You should give it a try."
Traitor hackles rose; he looked at the buck for any sign of teasing or bitterness, but Keeper seemed genuinely interested. That Keeper himself would refrain from participating was, of course, without doubt.
"I don't want to. It's dumb."
Keeper raised a brow. "What's this? Are we shy now?" He seemed to be suppressing a smile.
"No! I-it's just—" Traitor hopped from foot to foot, his tail lashing. "Fine! I'll show you how dumb it is!"
He trotted over to the nearest set of carved bark, dug roughly through the pile, practically kicked one out... and realized he had no idea what the symbol was or how to interpret it.
