Killing Smile makes his way slowly through the dense shadows of the underbrush, the blaze of the fear little more than a speck in the distance. He's not worried about getting lost, though, should he happen to lose sight of it. The trick, however, is to make sure he's far enough away that his quarry hasn't already been spooked off by the boisterous group prancing about the blaze....

Generally, he'd never agree to do this king of thing -- although, well, it's not like anyone had asked him too, either -- but a chance to prove his hunter's prowess, and maybe woo a lady, or handsome buck, for the night certainly did cross his mind when he'd heard of it. Anyway, a buck has to eat, and with others out gathering the feast is likely to be a good one.

First, he tries the hunting grounds, having heard the game here is quite good and fat off the fruits of the nearby groves.

Although he'd been hoping to find a fat squirrel or two in the fresh mud tracks, the acorns aren't a bad consolation prize. Pleased with his find, the snowy buck piles as many of the sweet nuts as he can into a makeshift leaf-pouch, and drags it back to the fire -- much to the delight of those nearby.

Bolstered by his success, Killing Smile tries once more.

Although he knows this is the same area he'd been to before, it seems someone else has claimed it in his absence! Smile gives a growl of frustration, baring teeth as white as his fur, and shakes off the tangle of fine vines from around his hooves.

"Damn contraption..." Grumbling, and with a final contemptuous glance, he lopes off in another direction for what he hopes will be better luck!

A lynx growls nearby, the sound carrying in the still night and Smile goes still. Copper, next to him, growls back and the buck laughs a little.

"Not tonight, girl. Let's head back to the fire for a bit. I fear the amateurs may have spoiled our chances for a little while at least."
