Remembering Spring

Winter is so long because it's so cold and dark and some years there's nothing to look forward to but wind and wetness and a chill that gets under your skin and never leaves. When the weather is abysmal and you have to stay sheltered you feel like maybe this is all you've ever known. There's nothing to do even if you wanted to and all you can think about is how miserable and hopeless it all is.
But then the seed is planted in your mind. Maybe you found it yourself or maybe someone else reminded you. But it happened before and it will happen again. A warm breath of life will come rolling over the land and over you. You know this because you've seen it.
You know, things won't be like this forever.

Not all shooting stars are falling. Not all falling stars are dying. Sometimes happy accidents crash down to earth.
The dirt won't dull your sparkle, and you'll know what you're looking for when you see it.
Just because it's unexpected, doesn't mean it can't be fun.

She and her friend had been sent as an advance scouting party for the rest of their tribe, meant to find a new home for their group. It was the middle of winter, and their former home had grown too inhospitable. They walked and walked, searching fruitlessly. When she grew too tired to continue on, her friend left her to rest in a cave, promising to return to her when he found their tribe a home.
Days later, the rest of their tribe found her, half-frozen and near death. Weak though she was, she refused to move from the cave, so sure of her friend's promises to return. The tribe would not leave her to die, and as such, they sheltered in the cave for the duration of the winter. When spring came and the snow melted, they found the area around their new location to be full of life and food, a perfect place to raise their lambs. The doe recovered in time, but to this day she waits, staring out from the mouth of the cave, waiting for her friend to come back. As no kin could truthfully speak to his fate, her determination, her obsession, leaves her
Unresolved.

The brightest flower, irresistible. It is joy and life and meaning to so many. She drew close, and she inhaled.
And she sneezed multitudes.
