Shellfish Pursuits (Over For Real)

Post by Kalahari »

Art by the incredible subducting!!
Shellfish Pursuits
While others busy themselves with merrymaking on the beach, a lone Acha has much more important matters in mind. Never See Me Coming has a congregation of sand cranes trailing along behind him as he scours the beach, stopping every now and then to pick up a seashell and hold it out to one of the birds - which swallows it! You can't help being overwhelmed with curiosity and approach the oddball kin, who only stops in his searching when he almost bumps into you.

"Oh, some help, good to see. Much to do, many cranes to satisfy. You understand?" When you shake your head in bafflement he realizes that he's going to have to actually explain what he's doing, which he does with an impatient air of wanting to get right back to work. But many hooves make light work! And maybe you'll take one of these cranes off his hand... or maybe one of those other critters. When did they even get here?

Either way, let's get shellfish!

How To Play
The game is simple! This is a daily roll game that will run until December 20th 9:00 PM CST. You may roll daily, or make all of the week's rolls at once and roll weekly instead to earn tickets. Days are determined by Central Standard Time and you can make one roll at 11:59 PM one day, then 12:00 AM the next day by CST. If rolling weekly you will have to wait one week in between those rolls! I trust you guys but I will check timestamps if the numbers aren't adding up right.

Cranes don't chew their food you see, but swallow it whole. Never See Me Coming has noticed that when given certain seashells alongside their regular small pebbles for grinding food in their stomachs, they show noticeable improvement in eggshell density and strength, as well as overall health improvements. Now he's got all of these sand cranes that won't leave him alone, so he might as well find them some good seashells to get them hale and hearty before they finally find another kin to follow home. Now that you're here, it's your job to help pick out some shells!

You'll be rolling 1d50 (or 7d50 if weekly), using the list below to determine how many tickets you've earned. At the end of the 3 week period I'll take the remaining prizes and roll for winners.
Spoiler
1. You lucked out, two shells! The crane gobbles them down. +2 tickets
2. This shell doesn't interest the crane... but Never See Me Coming thinks it would be a perfect addition to his specimen collection. +1 ticket
3. A good shell! The crane crams it down as fast as possible. +1 ticket
4. Fantastic! You nabbed three quality shells and the crane loves them! +3 tickets
5. That's a coconut husk. +0 tickets
6. A rotten fish... a seagull snatches it out of your grasp before you can consider offering it to a crane. +0 tickets
7. This shell, it's... magnificent! The crane that you approach next is so delighted by its appearance that you can't seem to shake the bird, looks like it's going to follow you home! Quote Kalahari with your familiar choice from the prize pool. (only one familiar can be won from this number, after which only tickets will be awarded.) +4 tickets
8. It's not a shell but maybe cranes like washed up jellyfish? ... No. No they do not. +0 tickets
9. A good shell! The crane crams it down as fast as possible. +1 ticket
10. This shell is extra big! The crane almost chokes getting it down, but it still eats it! +2 tickets
11. A little pile of tiny shells is better than nothing, right? The crane pecks at them happily anyway. +1 ticket

Bonus Tickets??

Complete these small tasks to earn bonus tickets! These are entirely optional and not required to enter.
Never See Me Coming is curious to know what your kin would like to learn about the natural world most! Be it why bats sleep upside down, how clouds form, or what makes rotten things stink so much, tell him all about your kin's curiosities
This task can be done 3 times with three separate kin. Each entry earns 2 tickets, for a total of 6 tickets. If you're also rolling for tickets, make sure to include these in your count after the task is posted and you roll next, making a note of where these tickets came from.

[insert your kin's answer here!]
She shares seashells by the seashore! Not every shell is the right shape for a crane to hork down like a meal, but they can still be beautiful to share and admire! Find an image of a seashell that you really like and share it with us here, optionally explaining why you like this shell in particular.
This task can be done 1 time for 1 ticket, with a bonus ticket for an explanation. If you're also rolling for tickets, make sure to include these in your count after the task is posted and you roll next, making a note of where these tickets came from.

Fun's eyes sparkled as she watched the sand cranes, only half paying attention to the instruction from the other acha. This may bode ill for her in the future, but she didn't care at that moment as she was simply mesmerized. She loved their extra feathery little tails and how cheerful they looked. Oh that one was all pink! They all closely followed the acha, that's so cute, wait he's telling her something.

Her ears twitched at the release word of 'go' and she set off to look for something to make the cranes happy. Oh! A jellyfi- no? I see, alright. Oh! How about this fish! It smells a little funny but- Hey! Get back here! Sulking a little at her first few failures, she dug her hooves in the sand and felt something hard against her hoof. After recovering from a bit of shock - admittedly letting out a yelp and jumping away slightly, totally reasonable responses - she found half of a larger clam shell it seems. She offered it to a passing crane and it was gone before she could blink.

Shells! She was supposed to find shells! With this epiphany, and not at all something she was told and should have been paying attention to, she merrily went about finding what shells she could. She loved watching them devour them with gusto and laughed at how cute they were.
