This wasn't something Neck Lace had been wanting. She knew it was a possibility, she wasn't stupid, but thus far she'd managed to avoid it, even with the occasional dalliance with interesting bucks. She'd considered herself lucky. Gotten cocky about it, perhaps. Well, she knew better now. There was nothing for it, though. Babies were in her future, and she intended to give them a good start, at least.
Motherfather help her, she didn't know the first thing about being a mother.
"It's not so bad," a calm voice sounded from around the thick trunk of a cypress draped tree. She was pale, hair and feathers vibrantly bright, and she was smiling calmly at the paler doe, a look of gentle amusement on her maw. "It seems like a lot, and it can be very overwhelm, but you learn quickly, and a lot of its intuition."
Neck Lace watched the doe warily, her ears folded back an expression incredulous. Merry seemed to know what she was thinking though, and she chuckled. "Trust me, I've been there."
A little of the distrust faded from pale features, and Neck Lace shook her head, posture relaxing, just a touch. "Why are you telling me this? Why are you hear?"
"Well, you called me," Merry answered reasonably, but Neck Lace's expression only grew more puzzled. "I've been touched by the Motherfather, I can sense those that are expecting, those that are in need of a little bit of help. Like you." Her smiled gentled. "Even if you didn't know you were calling me, I could still feel it, so I'm here."
Neck Lace was quiet for a moment, and then the doe sighed out, the tip of her tail moving in an agitated flick. "I never wanted to be a mother. Honestly, I was beginning to think I couldn't be," she let out an ironic laugh. "I don't know if Certainty will be around, if he'll want to know them. I don't really know him at all. It's...a lot. I just...I just want to know they'll be alright. I want this all to go smoothly." Pale eyes flicked up. "You know?"
Merry smiled again, her head dipping before a look of focus crossed her face briefly. "I do know, and I promise you they'll be alright, and it will go smoothly. Motherfather has given you their blessing."
Neck Lace blinked, surprised. "Excuse me?"
Merry nodded, grinning. "You've been blessed. It's what you wanted, right?"
"Er...well, yes. I suppose so. I didn't realize you could...that you were..."
"Well, I am." The brighter doe chuckled, turning to take her leave. "You'll be alright. Don't worry."
Neck Lace frowned, but she did feel calmer, strangely. "Th-thank you," she called after the departing doe, before the doe was shifting, shape changing into a bird before flapping up to disappear among the branches.
