LOOK WHAT I MADE!
Kin Name: Lucky Clover
Preference List: pink, purple, teal, cyan, jerboa.
Items Rolled: Shiny rocks from the volcano, Seaweed, Pinecones, Intact skeleton, Moss
RP of Building Disguise:
Lucky Clover eyed all the ingredients with curiosity how to build this trap. Maneuvering the vines she placed it in a circle and then gathered the shiny rocks. The rocks were used to cover the vines in a random pattern as to not look suspicious. In the center would be moss and seaweed, very useful to trick another. They would be long enough for the trap to snap! What to do with the other things... maybe she would move the skeleton, eggs, and sticky sap farther away from her trap like a red herring... nodded at the thought she began doing so. The driftwood she would use as a sign for the opposite direction as there was only two routes, it would have "BEWARE" on it from the berries... berries stained very well! Mixing the pinecones and slime together Lucky Clover went around the circle to the 'exit' route and thought the pinecones and slime would be a good way to slow down an escape! Along with the clay. Now it was time to wait to see how successful she would be! It was her first time doing something like this afterall...

LOOK WHAT I MADE!
Kin Name: The One and Only
Preference List: Just the helper ticket!
Items Rolled:

Beetle shells
Discarded, shed snakeskin
Intact skeleton
Birds nest
Moss

RP of Building Disguise:

The One and Only still wasn’t here for the motes but he’d been attracted to the crafting area by all the beetle shells someone had just left in a random pile of other junk. So he picked them all out, admiring them under the glow of a helpful mote floating by.

Yeah, nice.

He eyed off the other kin for a while and eventually figured out they were making cool costumes and since he was awesome and kind of the best at everything, it was time to show them a thing or two.

So he dragged the skeleton of something large over to a free space and started to pimp it out. First he discarded everything but the ribcage, then he gathered all his beetle shells and stuck them on every free inch of bone he could find to make a big shiny awesome skeleton.

For extra flair, a snake skin, a birds nest and some moss. Torn up and dotted around, stuck on with extra sap.

Then he placed the ribcage across his back, like some weird turtle beetle.

This was fashion.

When he turned around, all the motes in the area scattered.

LOOK WHAT I MADE!
Kin Name: Story
Preference List: purple, pink, teal, cyan, jerboa
Items Rolled:
Starfish
Seaweed
Petals
Bird's nest
Glowing mushrooms
RP of Building Disguise:

Story grabbed his collected things and immediately got to work.

He didn't necessarily understand why he needed a disguise. Many other kin had made it clear upon meeting that he was near indistinguishable from the trees on a normal day. He thought he'd even caught a few motes hovering amongst his branches. Though, he had to admit, maybe that was just fanciful thinking.

He pondered all this as he slapped a starfish and clump of seaweed into some mud.

Story wasn't even sure the helpers actually knew what they were doing anymore, either. Especially the zikwa. The tools that he'd introduced during this process had their use, sure, but were they helping bring back the light or was this an opportunity to force new and unnecessary things onto scared and vulnerable kin?

The large buck scowled as he worked at shoving some glowing mushrooms(he did not enjoy being around these at all) onto the ends of some driftwood pieces with sticky sap. Around those he stuck on a few of the petals he had, but no all of them.

Story didn't like to think negatively about other kin and he really wanted to give the helpers benefit of the doubt. Maybe it was the despair creeping in that all he loved, the trees and his beloved pets, would wilt and die. Maybe it was the guilt that he hadn't found his wife, his Secret, and for all he knew she would perish in the dark alone and afraid. Whatever it was it had soured his usually congenital mood quite a lot, and it was difficult not to draw the parallel to the light leaving the swamp and the appearance of kin no one had ever seen before that magically knew what to do...

He shook his head sadly as he pushed the mushroom and petal sticks into the lump of clay above the starfish and seaweed. He placed the whole thing into the bird's nest he had, smoothing the clay over the sides of that as well. Finishing it all off he placed his remaining petals sounds the entire clump.

The mushrooms were striking in the dark- Their glow softly illuminating the contours of the starfish and seaweed stands. The further from the front the petals were the harder they were to see. He placed it carefully on his head and stated very clearly(taking his time with each word):

"I'm an octopus."

LOOK WHAT I MADE!
Kin Name: Leaping Fish
Preference List: Just the helper ticket!
Items Rolled:

Seaweed
Crushed up seashells
Glowing mushrooms
Ball of hair
Palm leaves

RP of Building Disguise:

With the mention of crafting and costumes, Leaping Fish had been summoned from the shadows. A sudden delight, prancing in, blue tail streaming behind her.

“Oh,” she declared. “I have the perfect idea!”

She was after the lead designer of BIRD BIRD FISH and her fashion was (probably) well known throughout the swamp!

So to work she went, using sap and spider thread like the pro that she was, barely pausing to gather a thought or even ponder, as she whipped up something magical. A cape made of palm leaves, of course! Crushed up seashells stuck on to add some texture and seaweed trails to make the back end even longer and more elegant!

She used the vines as the halter that would hold it in place around the neck and shoulders and to that she added a ball of hair, to sit prominently against the breast. Glowing mushrooms she placed around the edges of the collar, to give it that POP!

Alas she didn’t have her favourite model available but Leaping Fish did her best to sashay about with her newly designed swishy cape, delightfully proud of her creation.

“They’re going to LOVE this!”

Then she was gone, scampering away to find the crow and the dove to show off.

LOOK WHAT I MADE!
Kin Name: Air
Preference List: Pink, cyan, teal, purple, jerboa
Items Rolled: Pearls, tuft of pink fur, coral, pinecones, sparkly stones (wildcard)

RP of Building Disguise: Air wasn't exactly the most creative kin in the world - at least physically. She could spin a tale with the best of them but actually creating something physical? It certainly was not her strong suit. Still, she had to try no matter what and maybe her creation would be so awful the mote would end up in a stupor and she'd be able to catch it.

And so she got to work, picking supplies from the pile without putting much thought into it. She'd caught so many motes already that surely they were wary of her presence and would stay far away and so her first idea was simply to look like another kin. She use the sap to stick the tufts of fur to her own tail, covering the colour of her own tuft. She used the berries to stain her skin, covering her markings and giving her body a deep reddish purple tone in the areas she could reach.

She requested the assistance of another kin near buy to adhere the scales of the pinecone to herself. The pearls, coral and sparkly stones she fixed to her head in a sort of crown. She felt as if she was born of the sea. The disguise seemed to work - the motes seemed to not move as erratically as she approaching and she was able to grab one quickly. The others flitted away and she knew she had to come up with a new disguise if she was to catch more.

LOOK WHAT I MADE!
Kin Name: Air
Preference List: Pink, cyan, teal, purple, jerboa
Items Rolled: Discarded, shed snakeskin, Red sand, Petals, Shiny rocks from the volcano, Intact skeleton

RP of Building Disguise: When she was done with it, the skeleton Air grabbed was no longer in tact. It was rather large - likely that of a boar or other creature of similar size. She adhered the bones to her still stained body, placing legs on legs, ribs on ribs and the skull placed upon her head. She then use sap, petals and sand to create markings on the bones, stripes and dots that formed a striking pattern. The shiny rocks she placed inside the eye sockets of the skull and they sparkled in what little light was available to them.

Finally, she carefully fed her tail through the snakeskin so it looked as if her tail was a snack, alive and writhing and she flicked it up and moved it from side to side as if she were ready to strike. Truly, she was a terrifying monster to look at but it seemed to work - the nearest mote to her seemed frozen in fear and it was easily collected.

LOOK WHAT I MADE!
Kin Name: Air
Preference List: Pink, cyan, teal, purple, jerboa
Items Rolled: Glowing mushrooms, Pinecones, Tuft of pink fur, Palm leaves, moss

RP of Building Disguise: For her last disguise, Air decided to try to blend in with their surroundings, covering her body in whatever green things she could find. She draped moss over her back and "planted" the mushrooms into the top. The palm leaves she held in her mouth, covering her face. On her head, she left the pinecone with the pink fur stuck to the top - strands swaying in the wind to act as a lure.

Then she waited and stayed perfectly still as the motes drifted towards her. When the opportunity came, she dropped the leaves and jumped out at the mote, capturing it successfully.

LOOK WHAT I MADE!
Kin Name: I Know Who I Am
Preference List: purple, pink, teal, cyan, jerboa
Items Rolled:
Seaweed
Set of butterfly wings with false eyes
Beetle shells
Pearls
Moss
RP of Building Disguise:
I Know Who I Am looked on, despondent, at this next new task. This was not their kind of scene. At all. They could only imagine the looks they were probably getting. If they cared to look. Looks of mockery- The laughter that they couldn't do something as simple as making a costume.

A tsk escaped their mouth with a clear eye-roll.

Of course I Know Who I Am could do it! What was so difficult about smushing stone random junk together anyway?

The way overconfident zikwa set to their task. Beetle shells were squished into moss and held on with spider web. Pearls dotted over it with globs of sap and seaweed coiled on top of it. On either side of the coil they slapped butterfly wings with huge false eye markings.

Placing it on the dip between their shoulders, at the base of their neck, they pranced about.

"Look at me motes," she called out, "I'm a pretty butterfly or something."

LOOK WHAT I MADE!
Kin Name: Mud Bath
Preference List: jerboa
Items Rolled: Set of butterfly wings with false eyes, Bunch of carrots, Red sand, Beetle shells, Sparkly stones
RP of Building Disguise:

Bath did like a bit of tinkering, and if he was entirely honest, he was helping on this occasion purely for a bit of fun. He was not entirely sure that adding objects would increase his stealth. He would venture to suggest he was fairly stealthy already.

The carrots were fairly malleable, and could be carved. The sand, shells, and stones were glittery, certainly. The wings were striking, if on the fragile side.

After liberal use of the slime and sap, Bath looked like a piece of the night sky broken off, all iridescence, glitter, and sparkle. One carrot had been carved into a tiny, mote-sized goat, and this goat drifted on butterfly wings, a curious and tiny friend stuck to the landscape of Bath's fur. Presumably on an expedition to visit the motes.

Bath thought they might be curious about a kin that could fly and was their size, at the very least.

LOOK WHAT I MADE!
Kin Name: Stay Awake
Preference List: jerboa
Items Rolled: Petals, Sparkly stones, Pearls
RP of Building Disguise:
Stay ended up with a lot of very pretty shit. He was a little crafty. He had a vision, although he didn't know how good it was going to work out. What he really needed was something to make him a little bluer than he was now. He eyed up his supplies. Berries would work, but they were going to be tough to get out after.

After a lot of berry dye and sticking stuff to his fur, he thought he looked like a not too bad approximation of a moving river. The petals floated down his now blue fur, with rocks to break up the river's path and pearls for froth. Not that it made much sense for a river to be walking around trying to convince motes to go somewhere, but maybe the confusion would help.

He was able to get a few more supplies, but when he looked it over, most of the stuff was for oceans, not rivers. That was a different concept. Petals didn't float down an ocean wave. Not any he'd seen, anyhow. And the rest wasn't related, so he left it. This would do him fine. Now just to see if the motes were into it.

LOOK WHAT I MADE!
Kin Name: Strange Creature
Preference List: Jerboa
Items Rolled: Beetle shells, tuft of pink fur, glowing mushrooms (wild card), palm leaves, 4-leaf clover
RP of Building Disguise:
Strange Creature was no stranger to hiding from things, but hiding from something she was pursuing was new to her. She was more of a scavenger, less of a hunter. But these motes weren't like any type of prey; rather, chasing them was more like a game. They seemed attracted to emotions, to fun, to all kinds of things that kin involved themselves with- and as she thought about what would make a good costume to hide from them, the proverbial light lit up in a rather literal way. Her idea for a disguise wasn't actually anything in particular; rather, it was the idea of light. It seemed like a good idea- to attract the motes, why not dress up as one of them? This would be a bit of a challenge, but she was confident she could make it work.

First, she stripped out the palm leaves, separating them into long individual fronds. Folding them over double, she secured the ends with sticky sap and looped the long jasmine vines through them. A few loose knots and she had something like a harness that would drape over her back, the palm fronds hanging against her sides. She wiggled into it, testing it, shaking back and forth to see the movement. When she was satisfied, she slunk out of it and laid it out flat, ready for the hard part.

Each of the palm fronds needed to be lined with beetle shells, spaced far enough apart that they wouldn't hit each other, but close enough that they would provide decent coverage. She used sap and spiderweb to attach each one, gingerly nudging them around to get the spacing just right. It took so much time, She let it sit for a little bit to let the sap set, not wanting a single beetle shell to fall off.

As she waited, she munched on the berries, not really needing dye. A little bitter, but not too bad. Then, she turned to the problem of glow distribution. The beetle shells would reflect light, but they couldn't generate it. That's where the mushrooms came in, but there really weren't enough of them to space out the way she wanted- and besides, they were pretty big. So her next thought was to grind them, to turn them into dust that she could use to sprinkle over the beetle shells. Using the long, relatively flat piece of driftwood she'd been given as a platform, she gently ground the first mushroom with her hoof and used the tuft of pink fur as a brush to gently coat the first row of beetle shells. It worked nicely; she had enough spiderweb left to drape over the shells, and the glowing mushroom dust adhered beautifully. She continued to apply the powder to each of the shells, smiling as they glowed and twinkled. The whole thing was coming together nicely. Once the shells were done, she used a little blob of clay and got some help from one of her dragons to adhere the pink tuft of fur to her forehead; it was saturated in the glowing dust and stuck up like a quail's plume. She tacked on the clover for luck and went prancing off into the darkness, hoping the reflective shells and glowing fungus would be enough to trick the motes into thinking she was one of them.

LOOK WHAT I MADE!
Kin Name: Most Wanted
Preference List: jerboa
Items Rolled: Tuft of pink fur, Red sand, Petals, Moss, Variegated banana leaves
RP of Building Disguise:
Most Wanted looked at all the pink and all he could think of was a giant mouth. Probably because he was hungry. All the green was fine, he guessed. He used the pink fur, the red sand, and the petals to give himself a very inside of a mouth appearance, plus the moss which he guessed made it a moldy mouth, and he used the banana leaves as the muzzle.

It was a lot of energy on a kind of stupid craft. But he was feeling more generous on a full stomach. He had brought over a shell of spare stew, and he slurped and chewed on it while he worked.

They'd get it. Somebody would get it. The motes would get it.

LOOK WHAT I MADE!
Kin Name: Simple Gifts
Preference List: Jerboa
Items Rolled: Lucky chicken foot, shiny rocks from the volcano, moss (wild card), intact skeleton, pinecones
RP of Building Disguise:
Simple Gifts was a pursuit predator, not an ambush hunter, but a disguise sounded fun so she grabbed what she could and hightailed it to an open area where she could build. She wasn't entirely sure why she grabbed a chicken foot, but it would come to her later. The question now was what would she be?

The answer came to her immediately; she'd be a wolf, like the rest of her pack. But how to go from kin to wolf? She needed uppy ears, that was for certain, and a thick ruff of fur at her throat. Bigger, sharper teeth would be good, and she had some ideas for that. Claws over her hooves- that would work, too. And she could use the huge blanket of moss for a shaggy pelt.

She decided to work on the disguise from the top down. She got help wrapping moss around her horns to serve as pointed wolf ears. The teeth were a little more challenging, but the intact skeleton- looked like a rabbit, probably- gave her an idea. She used the spiderweb to bundle ribs together to make two shapes that approximated fangs, then held them to her upper lip with sap. It was hard to talk around them, and they certainly wouldn't work as teeth, but they did look kind of cool.

Next, she crushed up her berries to get an inky black liquid. She daubed it on her nose for that extra canine flair and used the moss to sop up the rest, staining it darker. Adhering the moss was going to be a challenge- she wasn't quite sure the sap or spiderwebs would be strong enough. The answer came with the clay; she added water to loosen it even further and get it really sticky, then rolled in it, liberally coating her neck back in the sticky goop. The tops of her legs got a good coating, too, then she rolled in the moss until it had stuck to her as much as possible. She fluffed out the moss around her neck to match her wolves' ruffs, and then looked to the pinecones for her claws.

The shiny rocks were incredibly sharp, so she used them to split the individual scales from the pinecones. She chose the biggest, then dipped the ends in sap. She coated her hooves in the spider web so that the sap would have a rougher surface to adhere to, then carefully placed the sixteen biggest pinecone scales around the outside of each hoof. She decided not to do dewclaws- it would be a pain to get the scales in position, and nobody was going to look that closely at her feet. By now, the moss had dried to her coat, making her look bigger and shaggier. The clay felt odd, pulling at her hair like it did, but it was nothing a good splash in a lake wouldn't cure after all of this.

Oh, the chicken foot! What was she going to do with that? Hm, maybe she would do dewclaws after all. Breaking off the four toes, she jammed them into her fur, using the last of the sap to adhere them. She wouldn't be fooling her pack, certainly, nor would the disguise work on another kin- but it was very fun, to dress as a wolf and pretend to be what she often felt like inside. Wagging her tail, she howled, setting off the wolves. Tonight they would hunt, trying to bring back the sun.

LOOK WHAT I MADE!
Kin Name: Reaper
Preference List: Jerboa
Items Rolled: Chicken foot, butterfly wings with false eyes, pearls, another chicken foot, seaweed (wild card)

RP of Building Disguise:

Reaper despised crafts for crafts' sake, but this wasn't crafts. This was camouflage, something she excelled at. (Seriously, when you look like... that, like a midnight shadow with a pair of looming green eyes, nothing can see you if you don't want it to.) She smiled sharp-toothed and lean at the zikwa with the materials, gathering up a bunch to make a perfect disguise.

The point of camouflage wasn't actually to look like something else. It was to disguise your shape, to change colors and outlines so that you blended in better. That was why she took two chicken feet; the strange, gnarled shapes would disguise the shape of her face quite effectively. Using the clay, she bulked out the bases of the chicken feet so that they'd stick better to her nose scales.

The driftwood would also be good for changing the shape of her head; again, the clay was sticky enough to help keep it wedged between her horns. She draped some seaweed over it, approximating a mane of some kind.

The berries she deemed useless, since her work focused on shape and shadow, not color. The pearls, however- those would reflect light, making it harder to understand what she was. She dipped them in sap and stuck them in pairs randomly to different parts of her, hoping to create the illusion of multiple eyes. The butterfly wings were also great for shape-changing; she stuck these to the side of her face with the spider silk. The jasmine vines were also useful; these she used to create long loops that she wove seaweed to, creating a rough, shaggy mat. This she used to obscure her outline and add bulk. In the dim light of the lanterns, she observed her shape. Her shadow didn't look like anything recognizable, which was perfect- exactly what she wanted.

Post by Appeal »

LOOK WHAT I MADE!
Kin Name: Fisheye
Preference List: Jerboa
Items Rolled: Ball of hair, Shiny rocks from the volcano, Sparkly stones, Palm leaves, Starfish
RP of Building Disguise:

Fisheye was much more practical than she was creative. She stared at the items she had gathered or had access to. How was she to create a disguise? She had gathered a lot of shiny and sparkly stones as well as a bunch of palm leaves and a starfish. She also had a ball of hair? Although she was unsure where the ball of hair came from.

She used the driftwood and vines to create a structure to sit on top of her head and then decorated the driftwood structure with the leaves, rocks, stones and starfish until she felt it was enough of a disguise.
