[p]Abandons Fear x Brother Shark

Post by Beejoux »

Shark hadn't fully expected the totoma to accept the offer, the big guy seemed more on the reserved side, not exactly out-going. He didn't have their name to add to him impression, so dark brows arched in surprise before an almost wicked grin slid along his toothy maw. "Excellent."

He snapped up another large bite of berries and rose smoothly to his feet, tail flicking behind him to settle the long hair. "No time like the present." Whether or not the larger buck meant now or later, it seemed Brother Shark had made up his mind that it was now.

"What do I call you?" He asked as he waited to see if he would be followed.

Abandons Fear tipped his head to the side, staring at that smile. What had he gotten himself into? He wasn't the best about judging social situations, but that smile seemed like something to the left of unfriendly and friendly all at once. Still. One on one, like this? He was sure he'd be just fine, no matter what. He idly ate the rest of the berries before grunting as he rose, tossing his head.

"Mmm... just call me Abandon. Abandons Fear is my earned name," he rumbled, with some hint of pride in his voice. He moved up, his gait long and slow- one might wonder if the totoma could be fast, watching the careful way he placed his hooves.

Abandons Fear, it was quite the declaration of a name. It was early yet to see how well earned the name was, but the totoma had earned it. It left the kimeti buck wondering about the circumstances, the past. This buck, to him, felt more like a gentle giant, but he didn't reay.know him well at all.

Granted, he had just agreed to follow a stranger through the swamp into unknown territories, so perhaps he was more fearless than Shark thought.

"Nice to meet you." The kimeti turned, starting down the Market path that led to the trail the members of The Cres had been traversing. "It's this way. A bit of a hike."

"And you." There was a bit of surprise in Abandon's tone, as if he hadn't expected it to be a pleasant thing at all. Nonetheless, he moved up alongside Shark. His gaze followed the other's, and he rumbled softly.

"A bit of a hike would be welcome. The swamp is far too level for my liking." An attempt at a joke, albeit delivered with a deadpan steadiness. He was watching Shark, to see if he picked up on it. His herd rarely heard his voice, let alone picked up his meaning unless he stated it extremely plainly. Once, he'd complimented Path to Madness on her thinking, and she'd nearly climbed a tree at the first utterance.

Shark chuckled at that surprise, sporting a knowing sort of smile as he started leading the way along the familiar path. Then huffed again in amusement at the joke, glowing eyes flicking up at the bigger buck. "Little flat for your liking? Maybe the Cres will be a little more lively for you," he quipped back mildly, making a joke of his own.

The walk there was more long than it was diverse with it's terrain. We'll worn, flat, but it did weave through some attractively old cypress as they made their way into wetter territory. "Watch the mud, it's deep enough even you'd disappear if you stepped in."

Abandon nodded with a soft chuckle. "If you're anything to judge the kin there by... Then I think it might well appeal," he remarked, and then lapsed into easy silence as the pair walked together. He was content to travel, and, for once, the company was not unpleasant. Which, for him, was somewhat new, left him pondering that fact silently.

As the winter market gave way to natural growth, Abandon breathed a sigh of relief, and found he could breath a bit deeper. His eyes trailed over the cypress grove, the old growths. He'd been to a pretty place or three in the swamp, but this was certainly something to behold. Ears twitched, and his muzzle dipped so he could look down more easily. "... mm? I've stepped into deep water unexpectedly before... but- mud? Is it... quick?"

Brother Shark couldn't help a pleased little smirk at the totoma's response, and he titled his head to look up at the big buck, before the uneven stye of the terrain demanded more of his attention. The Cres wasn't boring, he could promise that much.

"It is if you stop in it." He shrugged, sidestepping a suspiciously wet lookin patch of mud and coughing his tail to avoid letting it drag through. "Some of its deep enough to make it hard not to stop. Better to avoid it completely."

As they walked the trees thinned slowly but steadily, and the smell of salt carried faint in the air. A keen ear could maybe even pick up the distant roar of ocean waves crashing.

It is if you stop in it. Abandon frowned a bit at that, curious. Had he seen somebody get stuck in the muck before? Was it anything like falling into a deep snow patch? He'd gotten stuck in one such patch near a tree once as a lamb. It had been a trying time.

No time for reminiscing. The loft of his guide's tail drew Abandon's attention, and he looked down to their hooves, focusing for the moment. "I... see." he muttered, though he wasn't sure that he did, entirely. He did make sure to follow where Shark stepped, though. Felt safest to step where another already had.

As the trees thinned, Abandon felt an odd pressure he'd mostly learned to ignore well up and start to ease. The scent of salt was unfamiliar, but not unpleasant. His ears perked up at the distant roar, and he held his breath to clue into it slightly better before exhaling slowly. "Are we near?"

[p]Abandons Fear x Brother Shark

Shark let out a little amused hum in response, glancing back over his shoulder at the bigger buck. The totoma didn't sound entirely sure, but he was following is Brother Shark's steps at least, and that was good enough. He didn't want to see what would happen if Abandons Fear wandered off course and got stuck, Shark wasn't entirely sure he'd be able to get him free again.

Better to avoid it altogether.

He lifted his nose as the smell of salt filled the air, drawing in a deep and welcome breath. "Yes. Just over this hill." His pace quickened a little as they went up, but he paused at the top to look out over the vast green-blue of the ocean laid out before them. The bay was crescent shaped, and there were caves and rude constructs on and around the beach where the tribe resided.

Abandon picked up his pace- one last push, and he paused alongside Shark. The ocean sprawled out before them like the desert, like the plains, a glimmering, seemingly serene green-blue that rolled like grass in the wind.

It was beautiful.

His eyes were wide, his stance slackened as he took it all in. The craggy cliffs- he could climb those. He wasn't the best swimmer, but, as long as he didn't slip, he'd have no trouble, he was sure. "I think," he spoke slowly, measuring his words, "I'll stay here, for a while. If you'll have me."
