Void Fern enjoyed kin-watching in the winter market. It was fascinating to watch kin about their business, see how the currents of conversation flowed, watch how opinion and friendship shifted over time. It wasn’t something that only ever happened at the winter market, but with so many kin present it was certainly the time it was most fun to watch what went on. She didn’t think of herself as a malicious or unkind individual- just one fascinated with others, and who preferred to watch rather than participate. She thought much and said little, mind constantly preoccupied and wondering. She had selected herself a quite comfortable stump and was watching the festivities with a detached sort of interest, considering potentially taking part in a couple of booths at some point down the line…

What a winter market this season had brought in! Tidal Terror was having the time of her life.

Getting her hind kicked in wrestling, anyway.

She could fight caimen fine, but when it came to other kin? Apparently she had gone soft.

Just as well; it wouldn't do to make legendaries seem too intimidating. That's what she told herself as she worked to recover her wounded pride.

The totoma opted to take a break from the festivities, and just in time, it seemed.

Someone needed her. She could feel it.

Realizing her work was never done, she chuckled and pivoted towards where the she felt the feeling pull her.

"Hail and well-met!" she called as she made her way closer. "How are you doing on this fine winter day?"

Void Fern blinked in surprise, standing up, startled. She wasn’t used to being addressed directly, but she didn’t falter for long, dipping her head politely.

“Greetings,” she said, gazing at the totoma, a little confused, “I’m well, thank you. I- trust you are as well?” She was trying to recall if they’d ever met, but she was perfectly sure they hadn’t. The burly, battle-scarred totoma was a little intimidating, but then, she seemed friendly, jovial even.

"Ah, well, my flanks are a little sore from sparring, but otherwise! Yes! I am doing well, indeed!" Tidal Terror laughed.

"This swamp is a wondrous place, with its winter festivities. It's not like this where I'm from. Everyone mingling and enjoying each other's company in such a way."

She sighed, wistful.

"Last winter I wrestled a caiman into submission at one of these festivals. You don't do such things for fun in the mountains. What an amazing place." She chuckled again.

"But you- what have you been up to this fine winter, my friend?"

Void Fern tilted her head furiously. She had little knowledge of the world outside the swamp’s borders, save from stories one would hear, but it was slightly fascinating to speak to someone who hadn’t always called the swamp home.

At the totoma’s comment however, her mind snapped right back to the swamp, and she blushed. “Um, yes,” she said, a little caught out, and unable to keep a soft, fond smile from stealing onto her face. “Lots of fun, actually.”
