Lurid had never thought that she was made for love, or she had always thought that she wasn't. In the clear light of day, she knew it; what use had she for another being? Another body in the space around her that was already too small. Another's skin to press wetly against, and shudder at the sticky heat of it. She was Lurid, who was coloured like poison; Lurid, who screamed danger, stay away. In the light of day, it didn't matter - she wanted them to stay away.

In the dark was when she craved: another body, another touch - perhaps she craved it too much, and that was why.

No one ever lasted past the night.

Until she'd met this boy - he was a buck, but looked a boy, wet-eyed and rosy-faced, and beautiful. She'd met him in the day, and still she yearned, despite the heat, despite the little space. Perhaps that's why he was different: she met him in the day, and still she yearned.

She wasn't sure he would return her touch. He was beautiful; she wasn't made for love.

But, then, he did.

And now she sought a blessing, because she wasn't made for love.

It took her a while of scampering around and singing and sulking after the last Royal Rainbow Troupe snub that she finally started feeling guilty about it, which meant that at least Beauty Past Compare had still internalised the moral of her character arc life's encounters.

When she felt the pull she swerved sharply with her little collection of puppies and practically ran over to the bush behind, and strolled on out.

"Why hello," she crooned, "you seem...troubled."

Eh, it was a doe. The Motherfather should have acknowedged that Beauty was being a very good girl.

Lurid was also not made to be confronted by so many strange creatures.

There was...a dog. A squat creature that...could be a dog. And a dog with too many legs.

The doe also looked like a dog.

If you squinted and turned your head maybe she looked a bit like a bunny.

With some skepticism, she asked, "Are you a Legendary?"

Oh good, it was a doe but a doe who recognised her Swamp-blessed status. She tossed her Swampmother-granted Legendary hair - it flowed about her ungulate shoulders luxuriously. Her pups sat at attention (however it was that the long one could sit).

"Yes," she said with pleasant airiness, "are you in need of one?"

Lurid rolled the weight of words in her mouth. It felt strange to say, or think of saying. But she didn't really want to spend any more time staring at the weird dog with legs had sought this, and so it must be said.

"Yes."

That was all the confession she could give. Because she couldn't think of anything but that weird dog wth it was so weird it made the other one look normal

"Ah ha," Beauty said with much satisfaction, and her dogs agitated on cue.

The long one seemed to try to clap its many paws together while staring straight into Lurid's uncomfortable eyes.

"So tell me," hair toss, hair toss, the Motherfather was watching, "all about it, so I may give you my best in my blessing.

"Is the other parent hot?"

Lurid was feeling that this Legendary was being rather inappropriate. She felt that there ought to be a higher power she could report her behaviour to. She supposed that would be the Motherfather, but since she didn't know how to contact Her - or she wouldn't need a Legendary for a blessing, she supposed - she would just have to soldier on.

"Yes," she said.

Of course he was hot. What sort of question was that?

"Well, that's a start," Beauty sighed noisily and said plainly, "look you've gotta give me something to work with, I need to do a little song so I can bless your children personally - or you're going to get a generic blessing."

Not that she had a generic blessing to fall back on, but she was sure it would have to do with happiness and health, which she was not sure how to emote in song and dance.
