It's a pair of eyes in the darkness. It's perfect camouflage. It's the gentle shifting of half-lit fronds, waving ever so gently in the vivid sunset.
The darkness sinks into him, layers and layers. In the darkness he is safe, hidden. He can watch everything, observe anyone. He can be seen or not. All the power lies at his feet in the nighttime swamp and the undergrowth.
