One buck kept annoying her for attention, a miserable attempt to court her. Fed up with his incessant platitudes, she responded with a hardy headbutt. She split the buck’s face plate down the center, knocking him unconscious. No buck has dared to bother her since.

the festival has ended
all its tents torn down

The night was dark under the new moon, and the hunting pack had gotten terribly lost on their trek home. Wandering hopelessly, they happened upon a stargazer, sitting high upon a rocky cliff. They called to her twice, but she did not budge. They assumed her dead, but called to her a third time, and to their relief, she responded. After explaining their plight, the hunting pack begged for her assistance.
“Follow the brightest blue star,” she spoke softly, but without much sympathy. “It will take you to the great river. From there, find the twin stars, they will take you home.”
They thanked her profusely, but she did not respond, and instead turned back to her stars.

He was a medicine-maker, but he certainly wasn't the first Totoma to take up such work. What made him stand out from the others was his insistence on kissing the wounds after he finished wrapping them. "It makes them heal faster!" He always assured, and his patients never seemed to complain. Young and old, they seemed to appreciate the little extra care.
