The thing is, Sootstripe isn't just an artist, he's a little firebug. He wasn't drawn in by the smell so much as by the cooking fire. And when he saw it being gently stoked by the exceedingly well-fed salamander underneath, his eyes went wide. More than half the eggs he fished up went to the little beastie, and he spent the rest of the afternoon hanging out, watching and cooing over the little beastie.

"I'd...like one of my own, someday," he admits shyly. "But I could never find an egg. Not just by looking."

He takes a deep breath, taking in the rich aroma of steaming broth, charcoal smoke, and tropical evening air. Soot muches his tea egg contemplatively.
