Crazy, they said.
Crazy, they called him. A totoma who had seen the stars in the earth as a foal, believing that the sky had fallen under his bright hooves, to be discovered, coveted and loved.
He would spend his whole life, learning to read the ground, digging until his pelt was ragged, before he'd have to stop for a while, but he did what they said he could not. Beautiful stones came from where he took base, of colours and marks seen only on pelts, or in the sky.
They were taken and loved by many, and he was named after his strange knack, a belief from the day he could speak. He was one who Digs for Stars.

An accident, a flaw.
Born unable to withstand the sunlight, she lived with the stigma of being unable to learn during the day. To hunt and survive with all her senses. The whispered followed her from foalhood - marked by the mystical Zikwa, she should go underground, and live a life of unfulfilled.
She would not let it stand - it just made her want to temper herself more, show them that they were wrong. She wielded those words like a weapon, not a wound - a strong Totoma didn't need all five senses - she would find a way to hone her skills.
As time passed, she recognized her eyesight slowly going, the shield that normally formed large horns, had started to cover her eyes, plunging her in to the eternal darkness that she had already known so well. It was fitting, and the glow that ebbed through was calming, warm. Nothing could stop her now.
"They say she stands tall in the sun," they say, now, with awe and inspiration. "To overcome one's weakness, is the greatest strength."

A special treasure.
Something only she, herself had found. It had felt like forever to dig out the shiny rocks that she had found in the swamp, their colours dancing like her own pelt. These were her treasure, and she would hide them, away from her siblings - away from her family.
So, under a tree, away from home, she hid her treasures, away from the world. With her hoof, she had carved a large X in the bark.
X Means Treasure, and it was her little secret.
