Speed Racer listened to her, his body language becoming solemn as she grew noticeably nervous. "It's ok." He reassured, poking her cheek with his nose briefly. "Wait for me?" He asked even as he used the voices of the kin around them to lead him to the edge of where the air changed. River rippled and hissed loudly in warning. "You can stay if you want." Speed offered out of habit, knowing full well River never left his side.

Totem smiled and pressed her nose to his cheek in reply.

Totem could feel him move away, and before she knew it she was already tapping her foot in thought. What if he went somewhere else? Was it going to be enough to just hear about it? Or did she want to go on an adventure with her best friend??

She pursed her lips and then called out- "Actually! Wait for me!"

"You shouldn't do that," a voice spoke up from behind the gathering. The wasp's whirr had died down to a quiet whisper, and instead of the wasp the mare now stood there, eyes narrowed. She wasn't annoyed at the kimeti, but at the hole. "You might come out a way you don't like. I suspect they'll find it funny."

Beetleshell, who had crept up behind Totem, drew back from where she had been stretching out her neck for a sniff, looking properly abashed.

"Ohh yeaaaaah" Speed Racer said in time with Totem. "He was the one who brought kin down to my home! Wait. No. That was someone else." Speed Racer shook his head. He could see the mare more clearly than any other kin present, her glowing markings standing out brightly even in a world flooded with light.

"Yeah!" He agreed with Totem. "I was a snake once. With Arms! It was a lot of fun!" He tilted his head curiously. "Are you one of His? Is that how you know so much about him? What's he like?"

Hungering Teeth was attracted to the hole in the way that mad creatures were attracted to equally mad things. He wasn’t particularly keen on other kin (except as something to occasionally snack on) but he could deal with the crowd today if that meant getting closer to the hole.

He listened as the others interacted, followed them with his head, blind but not completely sightless as he tracked their body heat around the cold patch of nothing that they hovered over. The oddness of it made his teeth ache and his tail quiver, and a sheen of drool gathered on the edge of his gums.

After a time, he declared, suddenly, boldly, in a horrifically grating gleeful voice, "we need to feed it.”

He slunk away and returned not long later with a long dead something, an old catch dug up from one of his many caches. He carried it with great ceremony over to the hole, slowing as he got closer and feeling each step out until he felt the cold on his face and knew he was above it.

Then he carefully dropped his offering.

He turned a bright, mad eye towards the hole in the ground.

"It would be a shame for kin to miss out on the rich rewards it seems capable of because you are afraid."

He chuckled.

"I know what the Other is like, and it is kind, generous. It rewards those with grand ideas. Those who want to change the world."

Something dark began to seep from the edges of the hole, something that bubbled like tar but smelled like something different for every kin that sniffed it.

The dead offering fell into the hole soundlessly, and for a moment, it seemed like that would be all that happened.

Instead, after a time, something crawls out of the hole, something that looks like two creatures melded unnaturally together. It is as large as an adult kin and makes a strange, strangled sound as it rolls its mad eyes towards those gathered around the hole, its gills uselessly flaring at its sides.

Its skin seems to crackle with some unnamed energy - electricity - and any contact with it causes substantial damage.

Whispers turned cool look on Bite at his suggestion, and after a moment the doe smiles in return. "Or you," she countered simply, pleasantly. She had no intentions of diving in, so to speak. Omen would be quiet distraught, and her children? Oh no, they would be very cross with her.

She clicked her tongue and Omen swooped up to land on her horn again, the weight of the bird making her head tilt a little. So much was happening in such a short amount of time. The acha that had dove in was back, changed, and there were more kin gathered around now in curiosity. She resigned herself to watch for long moments, listening. Until something very different crawled it's way out of the hole.

It looked a bit like a half grown tadpole, but so much larger. Whispers eyed the thing warily, unsure if it was friendly or not. If it meant no harm, she would offer it none in return.

The thing made its views on peace clear as it tried to eat Whispers.

It hadn't been long after another eager kin arrived that something else crawled out of the hole. She panicked slightly, wondering if anyone else could see this one as well, but she needn't have worried as it immediately attacked the one with the bird that was pecking the strange object it had been given earlier. She relaxed ever so slightly. Fighting was something she did, something she could handle.

Confidently, she stabbed at it with a sharp hoof, already revelling in the squish it was going to make, but her thoughts stopped abruptly as her muscles seized and she shook unconsenting. Shaken, she murmured, "That was....unpleasant..."

His offering had been accepted.

If his eyes could have lit up with wicked delight, they certainly would have. Instead his face stretched over a gruesome smile.

“You see! I was right!” He crowed.

And of course, a creature given dead and returned fresh was clearly meant to be devoured. Only by eating its flesh would the transaction be complete.

And so he became teeth, launching himself at the creature and biting down, regardless of the zing of pain that crackled along his skin at the contact. Anything bitten enough times would surely die.

Or he would.

It didn’t really matter, either way.

Air was late to the party - she was quite a ways away before word of the mysterious hole managed to reach her. So she arrived after all the investigating and prodding was done - much to her dismay - but she was in time to see.. something.. emerge. The doe flinched as it attacked unprovoked (though she wasn't sure what had occurred prior to her arrival so maybe it was justified) and took a few careful steps back.

"Nice.. froggy?"

She wasn't a fighter - but she wasn't a coward either.
